When you have lots of carrots to use up, need a vegetable with dinner, but want it to taste like pie, carrot souffle might be just the thing.
(I think it's even better if you only use 1/4 c. brown sugar.)
Just in case you're making Thanksgiving preparations, it looks like the date may have been changed. This sign is to alert people to street closures for the Turkey Trot in our town which is always on Thanksgiving, but when I stopped by the borough office to let them know that Thanksgiving is on 11/23, they insisted that 11/24 was the date on the work order, so that's what they had to program on the sign. They would, however, "bring my concerns to those in charge".
C'mon squirrels! You're supposed to hide the walnuts for winter, but it's clear that you've just given up.

ReplyDeleteI try to leave dried cone flowers for the birds too, plus brush piles and other “comfort zones” for them. It just means I have more cleanup in the spring. In the rural countryside my neighbors don't mind, of course.

I agree! I love to look out the window while I'm doing dishes and see pairs of goldfinches enjoying the seeds!
DeleteI do minimal fall clean-up in my garden. Between the tasty seed-heads and the stems for overwintering insects and bees and the garden "winter interest," well . . . The bumper of your car might be a new low, however. lol The parade of colors of oak leaves would be a perfect for my water color class. I might have to pull everything out and give it a go. I'm all for leaving your cone flowers untouched if it keeps the gold finches around. I love the little 'coins' hoping through our conifer branches.
ReplyDeleteI always leave my purple coneflower seed head for the finches and I have a nearby finch feeder...I just love watching them! Squirrels are funny...where I used to live the squirrels would always "hide" a black walnut on top of my mailbox, right near the front door! Now I find them in the window wells around my house.

ReplyDeleteWe had our trash company call with a recorded message (3 times) - because they kept messing up in one way or the other. One was the date - they kept saying November 24th...and insisting it was Thanksgiving... They finally called - a 4th time - to say, hey, it is November 23rd.... Was it leap year last year? Would that be why there is a problem?

ReplyDeleteOur childhood dog used to bury her bones in plain sight on the living room rug. She'd make the feet motions to cover it up and then it was out of sight. Maybe your squirrels are doing the same thing!
