We Interrupt Our Regularly Scheduled Programming ...

... Because the scanner is broken so I can't scan the photos for my regularly scheduled Across America travelogue. Hopefully I'll figure something out for next week, but in the mean time, here are some random bits of beauty, blooming, delight, and wonderfulness that I've come across recently.

Yellow blooming trees against a blue sky.

Fuzzy magnolia buds against a blue sky.

Grape hyacinths responding to increasing warmth and sunlight.

Interesting shadows on the patio and driveway.

I found out that authors' names matter when I accidentally got this book from the library instead of the one Kat recommended.

I disliked this cover so much along with the first chapter that I made a second trip back to the library and got the good right one.

Kat is right; The Night Gardener by Terry and Eric Fan is magical (and now I want an owl topiary).

And finally perfecting a crispy, cheesy crust on baked macaroni and cheese was one of my favorite things this week.

Hope your week was a good one and your weekend is even better!

  1. Cheers for the weekend! Sorry about the scanner. We have one at the library that we let people use, maybe your library does, too.

  3. I was just thinking of making macaroni & cheese this weekend! Yours looks spectacular. My grape hyacinths aren't up yet, but I'm hoping soon. Missing your "Across America Post" but like others, the pictures of Spring are welcome. Enjoy your weekend!

  5. Your book mixup reminds me of the time my in-laws went to see "Fatal Attraction," but instead saw "Fatal Beauty." My MIL told us, "I didn't know Whoopi Goldberg was in it and kept waiting for Glenn Close to show up." Hilarious.

  6. I cannot help with the scanner, but there is a phone app that is pretty darn good - PhotScan. And, I know... I love The Night Gardener and seriously, have read it multiple times. It is the best book on earth to calm your inner self. And, those blue skies! I love it! Happy Friday to you!

  7. Oh! You are just a bit ahead of us, spring-wise. Gives me hope. Maybe next week??? (Because it's starting to finally warm up.) I, too, have a scan app on my phone that works pretty good in a pinch. (The one I use is TurboScan.) The RIGHT book looks just lovely. I'll have to check it out at my library (and thanks for the heads-up on the mix-up). Once I reserved a book that was on one of the award short lists . . . only to discover it shared a title with a bodice-ripper romance novel. Hmmmmm. Not quite what I had in mind. . . :-) Happy weekend, Bonny!

  9. Our spring is running apace of yours. Even the drenching rain didn't damage the beautiful flowering trees (too much)! Good luck with your scanner!
