Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday, and the daydreaming is strong today.

I'm still working on the Christmas mitts, and this is the second one in the first pair. This is lovely yarn to knit, but I'm ready to knit something besides dull green.

I've got another mitt to knit on a second pair, but 'll explain more about them later. (Christmas knitting, you know.)

This is what I'm really daydreaming about - a Sockhead Cowl for me out of this gorgeous yarn.

The color is hard to capture (it's not blue, but a really rich purple) especially in too-dark-for-photos winter light, so here is a slightly jarring photo of it on the red couch at The Loopy Ewe last summer when I bought it.

Even though I can't take a good photo if it, it is lovely and I hope to cast on soon.

I'm also daydreaming about books. I'm reading Calypso, and I think it might be David Sedaris' best - the perfect blend of humor and poignancy. Kat talked about The Folded Clock and it intrigued me enough that I might need to read it next. None of the libraries I use to access Overdrive has a copy, but one of them uses a recommendation feature. I can recommend that they purchase the book, and if they do, they will check it out to me. I did this, but the next screen made me laugh.

The only criteria for recommending other books must be that they are available. No Rock or Willie Mays for me; I think I'll buy The Folded Clock before that happens.

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. I am dreaming of a sock head cowl as well - and I too have an amazing skein of yarn! Sadly it is way down the list of things to knit, but maybe January! :)

  2. I've added Folded Clock to my list, too... One would think the library app would do a better match of interests...the purple yarn on the red chair is beautiful! I can see why you are eager to get going on the cowl.
    Cheers~

  3. I just got my yarn for a sock head cowl yesterday from the Loopy Ewe! I will be casting on whenever time allows. I have that recommendation feature at my library as well, and they are actually very good about buying almost everything I ask for!

  5. Love that purply/blue yarn and I LOVE your project bag!! Believe I recommended the Folded Clock to my local library (I used to be able to recommend to the Phila. Library...but sadly, no more). Once I got a message from my local library that I had reached a limit on what I could recommend! But, I will say that a number of books I have recommended have come in!

  6. As a librarian using Overdrive I'll be the first to admit that those recommendations are usually not.good. LOL

  7. Ha! Yes sometimes the Overdrive recommendations come out of the blue based on what?? The bag for the mitts is darling. Isn't it interesting how the next project always looks better to us. Although that deep blue purple color is striking. It will make a nice cowl for a gray winter day.

  9. I think The Rock is hot. (I have since he played Buford Pusser in Walking Tall) BUT I don't really want to read about him. :-) I can't wait to see that cowl! (I'm losing my interest in Dan's socks too...)

  11. Oh I do love that moose project bag ... and hope those dull green mitts get done soon! because you really need to be knitting that cowl instead! I actually found The Folded Clock at my local library - in hardcopy. and that last photo made me laugh out loud (thank goodness all I'm drinking is water ;-)

  13. Why bother to have a recommendation feature? Christmas knitting can feel so endless. Hopefully, the recipients will be grateful for your hard work. I finished my only knitted gift, a hat. I have no attachment to Smith's reaction. If he doesn't like I'll wear it!
