Tomatoes before:
Two gallons of roasted and blended tomato "goop" to freeze and cook down in the winter. I was hoping for more regular tomatoes but we only got two, and those got eaten right in the garden!
Zucchini before:
Zucchini after:
12 cups of shredded zucchini for the freezer, to be baked into zucchini bread when it finally cools down.
Zucchini, spaghetti sauce, cheese, some Italian seasoning, and a little garlic powder. I like it cold.
Cucumbers after: (I forgot to take a before photo!) The container was full originally but cold cucumbers are just crying out to be eaten when it's hot.
The after photo will depend on what Justin's hot-pepper-loving coworkers do with them. They're pretty, and Ryan has used a few in eggs and stir-fried rice, but I tried a small piece of one and my mouth burned for 10 minutes. These are all getting passed along to people that can appreciate (and tolerate) them.
These few green beans will just stay in the refrigerator and I'll make them for dinner over the next few days.
Not too bad for only receiving about 22 sprinkles of rain in the past week!
That's a great produce haul!
ReplyDeleteI'm always impressed by your garden bounty!
ReplyDeleteOh, Bonny! You've been so busy with the harvesting and the "processing"! And I can't believe the bounty . . . given the mere 22 sprinkles of rain. Well done! XO
ReplyDeleteThat really is a great bounty for so little rain, but it's always disappointing when the weather doesn't cooperate. I, too, always have to pass on the hot peppers. I just can't tolerate or enjoy them. You did get enough to enjoy some bounty later, and that's always a nice surprise in the fall and winter.
ReplyDeleteOh my! Well done! (And those peppers! YUM!! I love love love stuffed poblano's ... they are such flavorful peppers - and relatively low on the Scoville Scale. But hot weather makes hot peppers hotter... as does bee cross pollination.)
ReplyDeleteI have to get shredding my zucchini... I have a few giants, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great harvest! I had some delicious Jimmy Nardello frying peppers in a pasta dish last night. One of the regulars at our Farmers Market always has a wide variety of peppers and I'll try most of them except for the really hot ones.
ReplyDeleteWe are real pepper wimps so I'm not quite sure why John ordered seeds for hot peppers. The red ones are Red Embers and 50,000 Scoville units - far too hot for me!
DeleteWhat a great haul Bonny! And, you've been busy. I saw our neighbor Rob the other day - he was holding a zucchini the size of a baseball bat! Said he hadn't initially seen it in the garden. LOL I'm making some roasted cherry tomatoes to go with our dinner tonight. Finally, we had about half an inch of rain overnight. It was loud enough to wake us up!
ReplyDeletewhat bounty!! I bet your house smelled delicious :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a bountiful garden. If we lived closer, I'd share some tomatoes. I like the looks of those fresh beans. A small beetle gets them around here. I have given up and haven't been able to get to a Farmer's Market to get some. Where or where is the rain though?
ReplyDeleteI always look forward to seeing your garden harvest - looks like another great season!
