My imaginary knitting timeline of finishing a pair of socks in a day turned out to be inconsistent with reality, but I did manage to finish one sock in a day when I wasn't busy with the usual things that intrude into my knitting time. (If only John didn't want dinner every.single.night.)
Reading is one of the things that I've had a little more time for because I'm spending less time on the internet. I finished a surprisingly good book, The Boy in the Field, by Margot Livesey this week. It was a great combination of mystery, coming of age story, and family saga that I will be thinking about for quite a while. I'm still thinking about Hamnet three and a half weeks after finishing it but luckily I can hold several books in my mind at the same time. I started Lady in the Lake, and am finding it a light yet interesting read so far.
What are you making and reading this week?
I love discovering more time :)Beautiful socks and I love your ivy!! Like you I love the days I do not have to cook.
ReplyDeleteI think I will have yarn left over to make a pair of matching socks for Winston's vest! What pattern do you use?
ReplyDeleteI am off to find The Boy in the Field... thank you!
Three finished socks is excellent! I'm sure not being on the internet is translating to more reading and knitting time, and perhaps John can manage to get his own dinner one or two nights? (I know the feeling -- I am really looking forward to the day when my kid can take over the cooking sometimes!)
ReplyDeleteIs there anything cuter than tiny baby socks????
ReplyDelete(Ditto on the cooking. At least Tom is the cleaner-upper around here. . . )
Cute, cute, cute socks! Finding more time is such a gift, isn't it? I've had "Lady in the Lake" on my list to read for some time.
ReplyDeleteI need time! The books are coming fast and furious from the library! (Thank goodness you can put them off a bit!) I'm reading The Mountains Sing and knitting a sweater...small needles...what was I thinking? Those socks are just adorable!
ReplyDeleteThose baby socks are so stinking cute! It is such a relief on the days I don't have to think about or cook dinner, much more ME TIME - LOL. Just finished What a Fun Age, and I enjoyed it. I have the Boy in the Field on my list as I really like Margot Livesey, but my library is not buying new books much these days, . My nephew and his wife are having a baby so I am thinking about a Baby Surprise Jacket.
ReplyDeleteHamnet. Still on my mind, too. Dale is reading it now and also loving it.
ReplyDeleteI will suggest that book to Allison.! I finished NOBODY WILL TELL YOU THIS BUT ME, and it was charming.
ReplyDeleteThose socks are surely growing on the Wrigley field vines! Well done
Im knitting a shawl
I think a sock a day is pretty darn good.
ReplyDeleteThe Boy in the Field is on my list.
That was only on the days when I didn't do much else except knit (and they're only tiny baby socks)!
DeleteDarling little socks hanging in the ivy. You pick the best backgrounds for photo shoots. Hmm I don't think I've heard of The Boy in the Field but your comments make it sound intriguing.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I often wish the family would be happy with toast for dinner so I can get all the knitting done!
ReplyDeleteSo true! Toast is easy for family members to make themselves, can be spread with butter, jam, cinnamon sugar, or Nutella, and it tastes delicious. The perfect dinner! :-)
DeleteThis socks are so cute! I've been all over the place with knitting and reading ... and happily, they're all good places! Still, four knitting projects and four books at once makes for S-L-O-W progress. I started listening to The City We Became today and whoa. I'm also halfway through Zadie Smith's On Beauty and loving it.
ReplyDeleteOne sock in a day is quite an accomplishment! I read Boy in the Field and found it a very good story and, as you said, I will be thinking about that family for awhile to come.
