Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and the Unravelers for Unraveled Wednesday.

I'm still working on my two Sockhead Cowls, wishing that they were done. Today's high of 24° with 25 mph winds and especially Thursday's high of 13° will certainly keep me knitting. Hopefully two completed Sockhead Cowls will be ready to keep me warm in this kind of weather the next time it happens.

Knitting has just been inches of round and round ribbing and stockinette, but my reading has been stellar. I've finished four books since the beginning of the year, and they have each been great in their own ways. I've read Hello, World, When Death Becomes Life, A Place in the Woods, and Influenza. (If you're interested, links will take you to my reviews.) They are all nonfiction, but I'm currently listening to my first fiction, The Gown, along with another nonfiction, The Gift of the Deer. These are both excellent so far, so my year in reading is off to a grand start.

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. And, just like that - my "read soon" list has grown exponentially! Stay warm and knit on!

  2. I'm impressed to see that both cowls are growing ... how do you decide which one to work on? ;-) And YAY for the great start to reading. You will always hold a special place in my heart for suggesting How Not To Be Wrong. I still enjoy fiction, but the non-fiction books have really rocked my world. Thank you!

  3. Lovely knitting! :-) My own knitting is, well . . . not really happening these days. It seems nothing is working quite like I had hoped it would. It's a definite dry spell. Luckily, I'm reading some great books . . . so there is that!

  4. Reading has taken a front seat to my knitting. I think I'll get something fun going soon. I love the color of your cowls and wish you speed as you knit them. We had temperatures in the same ballpark around Christmas/New Years as well as wind (OMG!). I was very appreciative of wool.

  5. Two Sockhead cowls at once. The Sockhead hat was a mindless knit but I was sooo happy to be done with it. Those blues are gorgeous.

  8. I love the color of your cowls! I'm knitting a Stopover for myself and wish I had it done to wear on this cold day. I finished the body last night and am ready to start the 1st sleeve today. I just started reading American Eden: David Hosack, Botany, and Medicine in the Garden of the Early Republic. My nephew gave me this book for Christmas and he knows me well, because I can already tell that this is a book I will enjoy

    1. Thanks, Debbie! Blues and purples are my favorites. I hope you finish your Stopover sleeves soon, and I hope we have more cold weather so you can wear it and appreciate its fine warmth!

  10. Love the blues you've chosen Bonny. I'm really enjoying knitting on my sockhead cowl. Not halfway done yet...but also not bored yet - lol.

  11. Bonny, those cowls are looking good! I wish mine was, but it is languishing, wanting attention. I am making lasagna and reading The Book of Fires. I really like it, but then, I love a good historical novel. I hope things are going well for you these days, and I hope that you are staying warm. I hate this kind of cold, but I realize it is colder where you are, so I manage to keep from whining - just!

  12. I am working on socks! Ali's belated Christmas pair, which is taking a while (long story). Lingering shoulder issues make ribbing (or any back-and-forth stitch pattern) especially painful, so I've been avoiding anything that if possible. I read Fox 8 the other day -- actually over two nights, in bed -- and it was so hard not to laugh out loud (or sob) at risk of waking Rusty. Haha.

  13. I need to make some Sockhead Cowls. It was 54 degrees below zero here this morning (with wind chill).

    1. With temperatures like that, I want to knit you a Sockhead Cowl - immediately! Stay warm!

  14. 24 sounds practically balmy! Right now it's -5 (and that's the air temperature). Sometimes there isn't enough wool in the world to stay warm, and I'm very thankful to be able to work from home (school is canceled for my daughter for the second day). Hope you're able to finish up and wear those cowls soon!

  15. I much prefer non-fiction and you've shared some "must reads" for my list - as the others, loving the shades of blue of your knitting. Read and Knit on!
    Cheers~

  16. I love how the two cowls compliment each other! You could wear both at the same time if you had a really long neck :) Gorgeous!

  17. Those blues really are nice! I'm still chugging along on that baby blanket and need to get back to Dan's second sock. There should be an available foot in 6-8 weeks!
