Unraveled Wednesday

I'm joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday. I've only knit a few more sections since I last showed you my Match & Move, but today the big news is that I filled the "With a cover that matches a current WIP" square for my book bingo card.

I'm playing book bingo in a very loose way this summer, reading what I want, when I have time, and putting the book into a square if it happens to fit. This one does!

Coyote America was worth three stars for me. I'm interested in coyotes because I've always thought of them as a western species, but over the last few years I've seen and heard them regularly here in New Jersey. I wished for more science and less anthropomorphism from this book, but that coyote certainly matches my WIP!

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. We have lots of coyotes around here and have to be careful about small pets being outside at night! I'm reading a cozy mystery and I just started knitting True Colors last night.

  2. Anthropomorphism is why I had to stop watching the David Attenborough show about earth and the animals. It's very arrogant of us to put OUR beliefs and feelings onto the animals.

Love the colors on your shawl. Reading .....nothing this week. Just can't concentrate on it enough to enjoy.

  3. We have coyotes about as well. I don't see them very often, but I do hear them at night . . . Your knitting is looking really good -- and it certainly "goes well" with your book! XO

  4. Thank-you for the word! :-) Plenty of coyotes around here but they also have enough woods to keep them away from the houses most of the time. Reading and loving...Lonesome Dove! Listening to The Power...very interesting!

    Cheers~

  6. My bear is enough, if I saw a coyote I'd cry. Lovely knitting :)

  7. I love coyotes. I have no idea how they feel about me, though I'm guessing they don't really care.

  8. Don't think we have coyotes (thank goodness), but hawks, and foxes and plenty of other wildlife that mean Holly never goes outside without a leash! I just found the book for my Matches square, too - Homegoing to match my mystery shawl :-)

  9. Excellent match!! My nephew has heard coyotes on his farm in Landenberg (near where John's new work location is and not far from Elkton). I think we had a coydog in our yard the other year. Weird looking and a bit scary - it wanted to play!!

  10. That is the perfect match for that square! And, we have coyote here in Pittsburgh too. I worry for the "outdoor" cats but perhaps they are smarter than I think they are!

  11. I was very happy I didn't have to match a WIP to a book, but you had one to match yours without a problem. Very cool. I have Coyote America and look forward to it, but will be aware of the authors bent to make the creatures seem too human.

  12. When I lived in CA, my daughter-in-law referred to outside cats as coyote kibble. Those skanky dog-like sneaks were everywhere. I've seen them here in central Indiana too. I can't help recommending Mark Twain's passage about coyotes in "Roughing It" -- I think it's great! I'm in awe of your knitting, as always.

    1. Thanks for the knitting compliment, Maureen! I just looked up the Twain passage you recommended, and it is great. "He has a general slinking expression all over. The cayote is a living, breathing allegory of Want." - so well-worded!

  13. I live in a very urban area right in the middle of the city. I do have a lot of land, but we have hawks and coyotes. I would love to see a fox up close! I admire coyotes in some ways. They are definitely adaptable and great survivors. I am reading Red Sparrow and not knitting. I have lost my knitting mojo.
