Three Things on Thursday

From Carole and Kat:
We're starting to feel like this whole Think Write Thursday thing isn't going so well. Participation isn't high and it's been dropping off steadily for the last little while. We don't want anyone to feel bad or guilty about not playing along - your blog, your rules! - but we are hoping we can revamp things a bit and kickstart some energy back into this weekly blog prompt. So, we're going to try something new, sort of a riff on Three Things on Thursday. This week we are asking you to share 3 things on your To Do List with all of us. Everybody likes to write lists, don't they?!

I wondered about my participation this week; I do write lists for myself, but I'm fairly sure they are some of the most mundane things you will ever read. If I am completely honest, sometimes I include things on my list just so I can experience the pure satisfaction of crossing them off. But since Carole and Kat have put some thought into this, the least I can do is give it a try.

Weed - This is self-explanatory. I've been putting it off for quite a while, but after two days of rain, I think the ground is sufficiently saturated to make weed-pulling as easy as it's going to get. I'm going to put a good audio book in my ears, get out there, and just do it!

Renew license - I thought I could just do this online, but it turns out I have to take my 6 points of id to the DMV and hope that I can prove I'm who I say I am. This means my birth certificate to prove I'm a US citizen, my marriage certificate to prove why my current legal name is different from the name on my birth certificate, my social security card, a recent bill to prove my address, and possibly a dozen Krispy-Creme donuts as an offering to Chris Christie. (I know that's not very nice, but he is not a very nice person, and definitely a lousy governor.) Wish me luck.

Zucchini bread to E - I promised zucchini bread to my old neighbor who has since moved to a nursing home. This may be a bit clandestine as she wasn't sure she would be allowed to have it. She's not diabetic, but I don't know if she's on any kind of special diet, so I will have to okay it with a nurse. Just imagine me smuggling zucchini bread in under my trench coat.

There are other dull and ordinary things on the list, but I chose three of the least boring and not work-related. As a bonus, if I get everything done, then I'm going to get pad thai for dinner, watch the last episode of Endeavour series 4, and knit. Those rewards ought to help me get everything else done and crossed off!

What's on your list?

  1. I think rewards for a list of accomplished things are definitely in order - especially when those rewards include Pad Thai! (I sometimes put things on my list just so I can cross them off, too.)

  2. That Chris Christie remark will keep me smiling all day! We were just talking about him at work the other day and that was the main point...not a nice guy at all. (He'll be off the radar soon...I think he's going to be shunned politically once he's out of office.) And enjoy your evening!

  3. Ugh. So sorry about the license renewal hassle. (Because that is a major hassle.) (I'm also sorry that Mr. Christie is your governor - or anyone's governor.) I LOVE crossing things off my list -- and I also LOVE your rewards. XO

  4. Only you can make the mundane hilarious! Although, I am pretty sure that audiobooks were created for mundane tasks and weeding (and getting that daily walk in!) I think Chris Christie is not deserving of a single Crispy Creme donut, but I can send you an extra "swift kick in the pants" or two which I believe he is in dire need of! Good luck with you lists and that awesome smuggling activity!

  5. Certainly my day has started with your list, and made my eyes smile. And laugh. Goodness, don't share any donuts. And your state has renewals different than my "lax" state of TN, I do it online, haven't seen the inside of a DMV in years.
I think you should still give the zucchini bread, somewhere in that nursing home someone will eat it and they all probably deserve it, much less the cleaning staff.

    1. I want to ask the people at the DMV why I have to do this again as I have had my special 6 points of id digital license for at least 8 years, but I don't want to aggravate anyone, at least not before I have a new license in hand. I think I might take two loaves to the nursing home - one for my neighbor and one for the staff. Thanks for the idea!

  6. Your rewards sound wonderful! I can't believe this season of Endeavour is so short! Good luck with your smuggling activity, license renewal and the (boring) weeding.

Did you figure out if you are going to the Jersey Sheep & fiber Festival? I might end up there! Colin and Mailing want to take Fletch and me to Grounds for Sculpture which is only about 15 miles from the festival....

  8. Like Annette, I live in TN, and renewing a DL here is easy-peasy for the time being. So you have my sympathy. I need to weed as well, but I keep finding excuses, too. Maybe I will get it done before the end of the week, uh, which is tomorrow. Zucchini bread sounds so good. I didn't make any this year, so I should make some, just cause. My to-do list is never-ending, and I will die with one, I am sure, but life is for living, not for list doing! And that is the rationalization for the day!

    1. I am tempted to cross stitch "life is for living, not for list doing!" on a sampler. I will put it on my list! :-)

  9. Yes, "Zucchini Bread Smuggler" must be a thing! But really people of a certain age expect it during late summer/early fall so you know those who can at the nursing home will be remembering. It was a duty to eat it up before the zucchinis went bad or got too big to even use as baseball bats. Helen

    1. I successfully delivered two loaves to my neighbor - one for her and one for the staff, with no smuggling necessary!

  10. Last time I went to the DMV (6 years ago) I had to hand over all the same "proof". I went as soon as they opened (it was a 10 minutes drive to get there) and I was out quite quickly (surprise!). All the same, it feels ridiculous to have had a license in this state for my WHOLE driving life, with no infractions, and to still be asked to prove I'm worthy.
Lists are not my forte. My list is even more mundane that yours as I only use one word tasks. :)

  11. wow. I did not have to do that to renew my license. I took my old license and my 'camera card' that the dmv mailed me and I was good to go. They only do photo id renews two times a week so the wait was over an hour long. I just sit and hate everyone...until my number is called!

  12. Hope your new DL photo is a good one ;-) and that last episode of Endeavour is on my list for today.
