Patience for Pink

I love seeing all of Kym's garden photos, and I think the photos of her blooming clematis are especially beautiful. So it's no surprise that after a weekend filled with ups and downs, I had to get these for myself.

It's supposed to rain here all week. While this makes for a lot of dreariness, it also makes great weather for newly-planted roots to get established.

I know they don't look like anything now, but hopefully someday I'll have beautiful cascades of pink blossoms, just like the photos I'm sure!

Digging in the dirt also gave me a chance to take a good look at some of the new growth on my existing clematis vines.

I also admired my sprouting bleeding hearts (my absolute favorites) and was excited to have a chance to get my hands dirty.

It's really starting to look and feel like spring here!

  1. Our weekend was dreary and wet; today is just dreary. But the sun is supposed to come out tomorrow, and the temp is s-l-o-w-l-y climbing (50s next week!), so hopefully things will start to feel more spring-like around here. I always get super excited about my bleeding heart, too! And soon the bloodroot and dogtooth violets -- so much to look forward to. I've tried clematis but still haven't found the sweet spot for them here. We had an amazing one in Oregon back in the day.

  2. Those are going to give you beautiful colors to enjoy! We've just got dreary weather here and I don't think we've supposed to see the sun for a few more days. I sure hope spring shows up soon!

  4. I love clematis! We had some lovely ones a few years ago, until my husband "cleaned up" the plant beds, and pulled them up because he thought they were weeds! Grrrrr.

Right now, we have a lot of happy daffodils blooming. :-)

  5. So wet, here. Day after day of rain, record amounts, but the beautiful blossoms are still shining through the rain and green is starting to come up through the ground. I'm hopeful the sun will bring out even more! Clematis is so beautiful and I hope you have fabulous luck growing the beauties.

  6. Ooooo! I have never tried to grow clematis from seed! Now I'm intrigued -- and really looking forward to watching yours unfold. :-) We're still quite far behind you in terms of spring-showing-up. But hope springs eternal. . . I. Am. Ready.

  7. Clematis are so nice! We've got a white and a purple (which may or may not have survived the lamp post crash of 2016). You're giving us hope...but the weather I just looked at is dreadful!

  8. This weather has had me chomping at the bit for spring! Digging in the dirt is a sure sign of that happening! It is too rainy here today, but the birds are so happy about it! I can't wait to see those Clematis in full bloom! (The deer think they are the best treat here...)

  9. planting perennials is surely the sign of a true optimist! (or a really green thumb). I think you are both! of course I have zero desire to get my own hands dirty, but I LOVE watching you dig and plant :-)

  10. I'm sick of the rain and it's only been two days. I think today is the day I get out and walk :)
