Help!

I'm being held hostage in an ugly hospital waiting room with three Trump supporters while Fox News discusses the repeal of Obamacare. I tentatively tried to start a discussion with them so I could possibly better understand their views, but the first thing they told me was that anyone who didn't support him was "a crazy traitor". That was pretty much the end of our civil discourse.

Next time I'm stuck in a waiting room, I am definitely removing the batteries from the TV remote.

  1. That had to be plain torture! I suggest headphones and a good audio book next time!

  2. ditto Carole's suggestion. I find that Trump supporters are not ones to engage in meaningful conversation, so yeah, don't even bother trying.

  3. I wish there was a way to prevent TV screens being in waiting rooms altogether. My dentist office is a big offender and they don't put the remote out where you can get at it. Half the time I'm the only on in the waiting room so maybe I should just pull the plug.

    1. I wonder why places feel the need to install TVs? Almost everyone has a phone to entertain themselves, and some of the really smart ones bring knitting and a book!

  4. Oh. No. That is sheer torture. You deserve all the gold stars for trying to start a discussion ... but, UGH. (I hate tvs in public spaces -- no matter the channel.)

  6. You need HELP right now, it's true! That is the every day person's equivalent of Guantanamo if you ask me.

TVs in waiting rooms make me nuts. Even if they are showing something I don't mind, it's not like you can actually concentrate and watch it. I'd be less annoyed even with Muzak ...

  7. My sympathy to you! I find TVs in waiting rooms to be very annoying. I hope you can tune it out with some knitting &/or a good book.

  8. Ugh! All the yelling. My m-I-l had it on the other day and she was a little wound up and we're like...change the channel!

  9. I am wondering if you could get a pair of ear plugs from the nursing staff. Perhaps a gentle reminder that you are not alone in "Crazy Traitor" camp might help... I feel confident that you have both knitting and reading - ignore mode! XOXO

  10. Sounds like a highly reasonable course of action.

  11. This is the main reason why I absolutely HATE getting my car worked on or going to a doctor's office. In my neck of the woods (the South), all TVs in public areas are automatically tuned into Fox News. Let me say that again, FOX NEWS, which really is fake news. I feel like I am being mentally tortured when I have to sit there and silently watch while people lie and misrepresent and manipulate things with such boldness. ARGG. I feel your pain, truly I do. Last time I took my tablet, listened to an audiobook and took some knitting. It helps, a bit.

    1. I'm not a big fan of TVs in any public areas, but I really feel for you with Fox News being the default channel. I guess we have to try the best we can to isolate ourselves with knitting and audio books!

  12. That is the worst torture I can imagine. Being force feed TV of any sort is a pet peeve of mine, but anything political is a whole other story. I hope you're time in the waiting room was short!

  13. last fall my husband was standing in line waiting to get his blood work done and a woman complained about the how her health care cost had gone up since Obama Care. immediately the republicans in line started grumbling about it but then one woman started gently questioning the woman complaining about her health care. simple questions about the cost and how it had changed. and the first woman then said her cost had gone up but they were still cheaper still then the Cobra she had before the Affordable Care Act and her husband who had been uninsurable before was able to get insurance. suddenly the grumbling stopped.

    1. I had a similar situation when my cousin complained about the increase in her Obamacare premiums, until I told her how much more we were paying for our private insurance with $5000 individual deductibles. Health insurance is costly for everyone in the US, but with the Affordable Care Act so many more people have the opportunity to be insured. Let's hope the Republicans don't completely dismantle the good that's been done ...

  15. Dear God. What could you possibly have done to deserve THAT? (Nothing. The answer is nothing.)
