If you were following along last week with What's In the China Cupboard you may have noticed some things sitting on the china cupboard last Tuesday.
The boys' college graduation pictures are sitting on top, and there are a couple of woven oak leaves and copper star ornaments hanging on the knobs. The things I'm talking about today are the two possibly slightly-out-of-place hunks of lumber.
Shortly before we went to CO to help Ryan pack and move this summer, John went out to clean up his workshop. It's in the top floor of our barn, and the boys used to play out there a lot when they were young. I suspect that John didn't actually clean up much, but he did bring these two hunks of lumber back to the house.
You'll see that this one lists the members of the very exclusive Ryan's Club House.
There is room for a third member, but I don't believe I've ever been considered for membership. Underlining and three exclamation points make it clear that it's for members only.
The other seems to be a scene at sea, or maybe a boatyard.
What TREASURES! Your Lumber Art makes my heart sing, and I thank you for sharing them. The happy boats . . . the exclusive member listing . . . such wonderful discoveries. XO
ReplyDeleteI noticed those last week and am so glad you've chosen to focus on them today because I forgot to ask about them!
ReplyDeleteHow fun, Bonny! You did not say how your sons responded to them, which would be interesting. Did they remember these? I recently found my stepson's diary in a closet. It was covered with Private, No Reading, This Means YOU! rhetoric on the outside, and then had many different threats and warnings inside - LOL. And someone had cut out about half of the pages with a razor blade. There must have been some valuable secrets in there. He just turned 40, so I wonder if he even remembers those secrets? Family treasures are found in the oddest places!
ReplyDeleteThose are the best treasures of all! (I have some little (or not so little) things my kids made out of "nothing" as well!) Smiles, joy, and the feeling of connection with those little beings are the best thing ever!
ReplyDeleteSuch treasures Bonny! I particularly love the Club House one and wonder what it would have taken to be a member (so exclusive!!). I, too, would enjoy hearing what the boys had to say about them.
ReplyDeleteOh my a blast from the past and such sweet memories!!
ReplyDeleteThose are just the best!!
ReplyDeleteI just took the journey through your china cabinet and thoroughly enjoyed my time there! But I think the best heirlooms are the two pieces outside! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Bonny!
ReplyDeleteI have a small ceramic 'cup/bowl' on my kitchen window sill. One February the Arts&Crafts store we regularly visited/made things at, did a class for kids so they could make something for their moms/parents for Valentines. I love it and it is very useful for as a saucer under a small plant. It is white with a pink heart on the side. :)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a very valuable and precious treasure!
DeleteThose are precious pieces of lumber! I've enjoyed the look at your china cabinet, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt's been fun sharing, both the china and the lumber treasures. Thanks for reading and commenting, Debbie!
DeleteThose lumber pieces are real treasures! and it does seem like Ryan and Justin might've considered a 3rd club member - are you sure it wasn't you?
ReplyDeleteI did notice those two pieces of wood. I would also be hanging onto those treasures.
ReplyDeleteI noticed those items, and I'm so glad you told their stories (as much as you know...).
ReplyDeleteI laugh every time I sweep coats & jackets to the side in our back-door closet to reveal Maddy's taped-up note declaring: CLOSET CLUB! WHERE THERE'S A CLOSET, THERE'S A CLUB!
The boys lumber art deserve to be in a place of honor! They're priceless!
