Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday. The Hitchhiker looks pretty much the same as it did last week so I won't subject you to yet another picture of it, but I do have a rapidly shrinking blank to show that I am still making slow but steady progress.

I will be done some day, and to be honest, I enjoy the process of unraveling and re-knitting. I have another sock blank that I got during the same Loopy Ewe trip, so I'm thinking that I might just start on that one next.

Reading has been satisfying this week. I finished After the End, which was good, but emotional. The real star for me was Olive, Again. Olive Kitteridge has aged, but she's also gained empathy and compassion in the 11 years since Elizabeth Strout first wrote about her. I found lots of honesty in this collection of interconnected stories, and I think it may well be one of my favorites this year. I also started listening to Why We Sleep (nonfiction that is exactly what the title states) and The Long Call, the first entry in a new mystery series from Ann Cleeves. I'm reveling in all the great books I've been reading recently (and up next, Middlemarch)!

What are you making and reading this week?

======

I'll be away for the Fourth of July, visiting my SiL, along with my niece, nephew, and a two year old great-nephew from New Mexico that I haven't yet met, but am very much looking forward to. I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend, and I'll see you back here on Monday or Tuesday.

  1. I just love the green shade of that sock blank. Looks like there is really not all that much left on it. I'm curious to see the colors in your other one. Enjoy your family visit and have fun!

  4. You are so close to being done!

    Thanks for more book recommendations. What's the equivalent of SABLE in terms of one's reading list? I think I've achieved it.

  7. Is everyone reading Middlemarch this summer? I read it in college when I did my senior thesis on George Eliot. I remember that I loved it but not much else! I'm looking forward to reading the new Olive Kitteridge book.

    1. You've made my day, Kathy, by calling me a very cool person! That doesn't happen often, so I'm going to appreciate it when it does! You are probably pretty cool yourself for listening to a podcast about snakes! :-)

  10. I'm envious of all the books your reading that are not yet available to the public! Lucky you! I'm going to reread Olive Kitteridge and see if the book speaks to me (I'm 11 years older, so we'll see). It's because of your review of Olive, Again! Thanks!

  11. Oh - I hadn't read about the new Olive book. I enjoy Strout's writing so I am adding that to my list. Not much left on that sock blank so I am predicting you will finish the hitchhiker soon. Enjoy your visit.
