This past weekend I did something that I haven't done for a couple of years - fishing. I use that term loosely. I did put worms on a hook, threw a line in the water, and a few fish were caught and released, but that wasn't the best best part.
What was really enjoyable was just sitting quietly on the shoreline, paying a little attention to my line, but paying more attention to the lovely surroundings and the gentle sounds of the lake and nature.
Casting your line is a a perpetual series of opportunities for hope, but fishing is good no matter how the catch is.
Beautiful photos, Bonny! What a great way to spend the weekend :)
ReplyDeleteHow relaxing! Love the pictures. I have not gone fishing in years!!
ReplyDeleteI don't fish (to be honest, fish gross me out a little!), but I think there is something to be said for the practice of sitting in beautiful surroundings and practicing patience and optimism.
ReplyDeleteGosh, those photos look so peaceful! I haven't been fishing in years and I imagine it made for a very relaxing weekend.
ReplyDeleteFishing is a great way to spend time even without catching anything.
DeleteWhat a lovely lake, Bonny! Such a perfect way to relax and enjoy some time "in the wild." I like to fish now and then, but I mostly like it when I DON'T catch fish. I like the casting out and the reeling in. I find it relaxing and soothing -- what I call "the essence of fishing." I'm just fine if I never catch anything. . . (Can you feel Tom rolling his eyes at this very moment?) XO
ReplyDeleteYour photos are so beautiful! You certainly "caught" the beauty of the area where you spent the day.
ReplyDeleteMy husband was a dedicated, life-long fisherman until his health made it impossible for him to go fishing. He always says real fishermen enjoy the process whether they catch anything or not. He also says that's why they call it fishing, not catching! It looks like a perfect day to me.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing better! I don't fish but I sit at water and it does a soul good! I'm glad you had a wonderful day there.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I haven't been fishing in years but I used to really enjoy it and do it a lot.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, Bonny ... and it looks like the company might've been pretty good, too!
ReplyDeleteThat was a beautiful post. I needed that today. The lakes in Wisconsin are so pretty and I love to fish for a bit. But if they fish aren't biting....Id just as soon relax on the boat and knit!
ReplyDeleteRelaxing and knitting is another perfect waterside activity!
DeleteWhat a beautiful post and photos. And you are so right, the best part was being outdoors and enjoying the beauty. Always good to take time to be.
ReplyDeleteI had a father who believed you needed to be 'doing' something even in summer. But he told me later in life that I seemed to be the one in the family that really liked to fish. I confessed to him, "Well, dad, you left me alone because I was fishing, which is doing something in your eyes, and I could day-dream as long as I wanted."
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you learned how to really enjoy fishing at a young age. Day-dreaming may be the real purpose of fishing!
DeleteI like enjoying nature, but I always feel bad for the worm and then the fish, so I decided fishing was not for me. I don't know why I get so wrapped up in it. Your weekend sounds just about perfect - isn't it nice to have something that is calming and enjoyable even if it appears that you are not "doing" anything? Just being is a luxury.
ReplyDeleteFishing without catching many fish is an enjoyable small luxury!
Deletewhat a perfect post! I love that you enjoyed your time out. I'm not a fisherman (woman??) but I am a lover of nature and listening to its beauty with my eyes and ears :)
