Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday. I'm making pies and crescent rolls today, but on this day before Thanksgiving, I hope you can take a few minutes to knit several rows or read a couple of pages. I am!

I've got some Christmas knitting in progress, so I'm not going to share many details (just in case). I'm not sure if the recipients read these posts, but I can share a few photos. There is really a whole mitt to finish, plus a second one to complete the top pair, and another mitt to cast on and finish for the second pair, but I think things are on track.

I was reading Marilla of Green Gables, and while it's good and I will finish it, I succumbed to my curiosity about Becoming, Michelle Obama's autobiography. I've always wondered about what happens to strong, smart, independent women with established careers of their own when for various reasons they choose to give up those careers for a different life. Michelle Obama had many other restraints upon her life in the White House, so this is an interesting book.

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. Becoming is on my to-read list -- I've mentioned to my husband that if he was looking for a holiday gift for me, it would be a good one! I started reading The Color Purple yesterday, having never read it when I was younger. I'm not sure what to think about it yet; it is a difficult read but well written.

  2. That yellow mitt is a ray of sunshine! are you reading Becoming with your eyes or ears? I'm tempted to listen - all because she narrates - but I think I'll want to pause, underline and ponder ... which just doesn't work well with audio. hummmmmmmm....

  5. I love those mitts, especially the bright yellow, they will be a ray of sunshine on a gray winter day. I am in the middle of reading The Sport of Kings and I can't read anything else right now...I'm thoroughly engrossed in it! I do look forward to reading Becoming!

    1. Becoming is an interesting book. It's really kind of sad that we are forced to make presidents and their families live in isolation due to security concerns, especially families with young children. It's amazing to me that anyone would even consider the job. I'm going to take a look at The Sport of Kings!

  9. Lovely knitting...so love the yellow mitts. I've put off starting Becoming because I have others in the queue but I hadn't considered an audio version...gonna do that, for sure + purchase a print copy! I will give one to my nieces, too: ages 26, 32, and 18!
    Enjoy your holiday!

  10. While I love yellow, that green yarn speaks to me. It looks heathered in color, and I am a sucker for heather yarns. It doesn't really look variegated, but maybe it is. (Correct my words, I just can't seem to think of the right word.) I am doing everything today that I can do ahead. Making sides, pies, prepping dressing, etc. I have been chopping all morning! I just came back to the computer to look up my recipe for Indian pudding. Believe it or not, I have never had any, and I try to make something new every Thanksgiving.
I have decided to knit a shawl, after all those negative shawl comments we exchanged! This shawl is designed to tie in the back so that it needs no adjustments while being worn. We'll see, but I needed something flat to work on while I practice my new method. If I hate it, I can give it to someone who will enjoy it. I am reading Winter Loon, just started. Becoming is on my radar. I'm interested in what you think of it. I miss the Obamas so much, sniff, sniff. I hope everyone's travels are safe, and that you have a fabulous Thanksgiving surrounded by people you love.

  12. Both pair of mitts will be welcomed gifts. Are you using a blueberry waffle sort of pattern with the yellow mitts? The texture will make them extra warm. I am baking Butterhorn/crescent rolls as I read blogs. Then I am taking your advice and sitting down to knit a bit.

  13. Well hardly anyone reads my blog that is blood related :) Of course my sister does but that is it. I can post at wild abandon and no one knows anything. Lovely mitts!
