... is for moving on and starting anew.
Every one of us is called upon, probably many times, to start a new life. A frightening diagnosis, a marriage, a move, loss of a job. And onward full tilt we go, pitched and wrecked and absurdly resolute, driven in spite of everything to make good on a new shore. To be hopeful, to embrace one possibility after another – that is surely the basic instinct . . . Crying out: High tide! Time to move out into the glorious debris. Time to take this life for what it is.
~ Barbara Kingsolver
Excellent quote! "That glorious debris" what a great way to describe the muddle that is life. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great quote! And a very pretty start....looking forward to seeing more.
ReplyDeleteThe quote is perfect for me right now, thank you.
ReplyDeleteI really like B.Kingsolver’s novels, are you reading something of her’s?
ReplyDelete“. . . Time to take this life for what it is.” . . . or take it as it is and make do! It’s one of those days for me, stormy weather but spring is out there.
What are you knitting? That color of yarn is so vivid.
I'm not currently reading any of B. Kingsolver's novels, but I think I've read them all. I've been thinking about re-reading The Bean Trees and Pigs in Heaven and will have to see if I still have my copies. My knitting is the beginning of a Match & Move. I bought the yarn last year and it's been sitting next to me in my knitting bag since then, so I finally cast on. The yarn is gorgeous in the skeins, so I hope it looks as good when knit as I imagine.
DeleteThat is lovely yarn. I hope you enjoy knitting it as much as you enjoyed your Hitchhiker. I think that is a perfect quote for almost everything, and I am going to add it to my collection. I feel like that most days, and my current challenge is to use this optimistic outlook to continue to negotiate older age. It requires what seem to be daily adjustments! I will be thinking of you today and hoping that the newest storm turns a blind eye to your direction. Happy Monday as a start to a happy week! Let's set our intentions.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Becky! The knitting is the beginning of a Match & Move, and I do hope these yarns look as good together in real life as in the picture in my mind. I'm beginning to understand the adjustments of old age and hope that yours are neither too many nor too onerous. Onward full tilt we go!
DeleteI love the quote!! Best to you in that high tide. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove your project, too, and will look forward to seeing your progress.
That is one of my favorite quotes of ALL TIME!!!! I love the colors for your Match & Move. Can't wait to see them play together. XO
ReplyDeleteI am a big Kingsolver fan. A new project and time for peacefulness (the previous post) are wonderful ways to start the week. It will be fun to see your progress.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a successful move :-) And I love the new project! My computer at work isn't letting me comment on your page or one other. Not sure what's up! And nothing in life is more exciting than a great hight tide!
ReplyDeleteBarbara is one of my favorite authors and I have all her books (signed). I met her a couple of times and she is as lovely as you'd think she'd be. Since I am in the process of remaking my life (again) I love the quote all the more.
ReplyDeletestarting a new project is glorious and wonderful! - I've read many Kingsolver books :)
ReplyDeleteOh my, what an amazing quote. Hope the moving on Monday was a good thing
