I'm listening to the second book in The His Dark Materials trilogy, The Subtle Knife. It's wonderful, and would have been even more so if I had had it with me. I won't be making that mistake again!
Striving to be highly reasonable, even in the face of unreasonableness. Reading, knitting, and some alcohol may help.

Unraveled Wednesday
Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday.
I'm feeling a little unraveled, but luckily the knitting is not. In my mind's eye this was going to be a photo of a finished pair of mitts being lovingly placed in a box of gifts to send to Ryan, but instead it looks a lot more like a terribly-lit picture of one mitt only 60% completed. The other mitt is done, and this one will be very soon, but I got a call while I was at the grocery store this morning to meet the ambulance taking my mother-in-law to the hospital. I was checking out so I threw my groceries in the car and raced drove sensibly 45 minutes to the hospital. The good news is that everything looks stable for my mil, and the prime rib roast that I bought on sale and sat in my car all afternoon is fine because the temperature never got above 20 degrees today. I also learned a very valuable lesson today -- take your knitting and reading with you everywhere (even to the grocery store)! You never know when you'll get called away and have to spend interminable time waiting without yarn, needles, or a book. It was as painful as it sounds.

I am glad you mother-in-law is stable. Yes, my motto is "knitting, don't leave home without it." I have a small project bag with a washcloth project that I leave in my car for just such moments.
ReplyDeleteHow scary! I hope your mother-in-law will be okay. My knitting goes with me *almost* always. But, I'm not sure I would have had it just on a trip to the grocery store.
ReplyDeleteOh, man. I am glad she is stable and I feel your pain of being someplace without the appropriate accessories!
ReplyDeleteOh, my. I am so glad your mil is stable (and that your prime rib is just fine!). I don't usually have my knitting with me -- but I nearly always have something to read. . . I hope the days ahead are filled with calm and ease. XO
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that your MIL is stable. I hope she gets back home soon. This is not the season for more stress! I don't take something to knit with me everywhere, but I probably should. I need a small project in order to do that. But I always take something to read with me on scheduled outings. It's a great idea to have something available in your bag all the time, but it is not my habit.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I always take knitting and a book when I expect to wait, but before yesterday that had never included the grocery store. Because of Jane's great suggestion above, I'm putting dishcloth projects and books in my glove compartment and my purse so I'll always have them with me!
DeleteHoping for a swift & full recovery for your MIL! I've never brought my knitting on a trip to the grocery store/errands, either, but here's another "thanks" to Jane... I'll be packing up a small project for the car!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that you MIL had an emergency but glad that she is doing better. I never leave the house without my knitting for the exact reasons you stated.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your MIL, but happy to hear she's stabilized. I put the Kindle app on my phone and have a book ready to read as my just in case backup. After I finished Subtle Knife and I had to immediately start the next. Sending good thoughts your way!!
