Three on Thursday, Randomly

Joining Kat and Carole for Three on Thursday. I don't have anything earth-shaking today, just three random things that made me happy this past week.

I recently complained about poor customer service from Amazon and Comcast, so it seems only fair to shout gleefully about good customer service when it happens. I wanted to get a gift card for my sister-in-law and her husband for a place that they have raved about, but wasn't sure it would work out because I'm four hours away. I called the merchant, chatted with a very pleasant and helpful woman, and she created the gift card and sent it immediately, just as promised. She did apologize for having to charge an additional $0.47 for the stamp to send the card, but said she would use a Christmas stamp (and did, as promised)! If you happen to be near Mansfield, PA, I highly recommend Papa the Butcher. They are a wonderful butcher shop, also serve delicious meals, and have excellent customer service!

Does this sky remind you of anything?

This is what came to my mind right away. John thought I was nuts when I told him we had a Simpsons sky, but Ryan knew just what it was when I sent him the photo.

We live just ten miles west of the Delaware River, so it's only fitting that Santa left the sleigh at the North Pole and hopped in a canoe for a recent visit.

I was glad to see that at least one elf wore his waterproof boots.

Head on over here to read more Three on Thursday posts.

  1. I love canoeing Santa! I admit, I laughed at those Simpson skies! And, perhaps Comcast and Amazon can sign up to take some customer service lessons from the staff of Papa the Butcher!

  2. Canoeing Santa is so much fun!!! I hope he has on his waterproof boots as well. . . It's such a pleasure to encounter great customer service. I'm still raving about a Delta agent that helped me on the phone (for nearly an hour) to make some very complicated flight plans for Erin's upcoming move (with cat. . . ). It doesn't take much to be helpful, really -- and it makes all the difference in the world!

  3. What fun! We have on our buffet (along with the birch log) a canoe with Santa in it - bought years ago, but the real one is great! Papa the Butcher sounds wonderful as well. Cracking up over the Simpson sky - lol.

  4. It is wise to revel in the kindness of strangers! After all, most of us wallow in the callousness of strangers when it happens. Thanks for passing this along and reminding me that just when I have lost my faith in people, I run across someone who realizes that being kind also makes them happier during their day. Santa has to do whatever he must to get around to everyone. Canoeing Santa is too cute.

    1. After chatting with Amazon and Comcast multiple times to resolve problems, I mistakenly thought that getting a gift certificate from a small independent place might be a big deal. It was not! The wonderful woman I talked to did exactly what she said she would do and I was only on the phone for about 4 minutes. I kind of wanted to drive four hours to say thank you and eat there, but it's a place I'm definitely going to next time I'm visiting!

  5. Santa in a canoe is a new one! I grew up and spent most of my life on the NY side of the Delaware, about 15 miles away, in Orange Co. We would access the river in Port Jervis, NY, just above Tri-States, so I enjoy seeing pictures of "my river"!

  9. And now I'm singing Christmas Island.... :)
Don't you just love small business customer service? They always seem to be SO much better than big corporations.

  14. I love the 47 cent stamp invoice :) There are good people and that is evident. I saw my internet company out again fixing our street again, in this freezing cold weather. How nice!
