Three on Thursday: It's Pumpkin Spice Season!

Kym and Carole had an idea to get together for a Three on Thursday Pumpkin Spice post and I'm joining in. I honestly hadn't been paying any attention to various pumpkin spice things, but I found plenty when I went to Walmart with my eyes open and ready to take pictures. So here are Three Pumpkin Spice Things plus several bonus products.

These Little Debbie Pumpkin Delights probably taste fine; I just think they look a little creepy.

Pumpkin Spice cookie mix sounds fairly normal but I was not tempted by Pumpkin Spice Chips. I'm not sure what they taste like; the ingredients are sugar, a bunch of oils, and "natural flavor". What that natural flavor might be, I do not know.

I almost fell for this, Febreze! I love a nice slice or two of pumpkin roll and thought it might be pleasant to have my house smell like it. Except I know I would break down and bake an actual pumpkin roll and probably eat the whole thing myself.

I had to smell this for myself. While Pumpkin Spice Latte wasn't a bad scent, I do not want to apply that to my underarms. But these were the last two left at my Walmart so there may be plenty of others that do.

Manufacturers seem to have figured out most of the places where the taste and scent of pumpkin spice might be appreciated by consumers, but I wonder if they might be overlooking some segments of the market. I have a friend who puts a dollop of pumpkin in her cats' food (maybe for a shiny, healthy coat?) so I wonder why there aren't pumpkin spice products marketed for pets.

But wait, Tidy Cats makes Fall Frolic cat litter! I don't know exactly what it smells like, but what cat wouldn't enjoy Pumpkin Spice cat litter? (Nugget. Nugget would definitely turn her nose up at this stuff.)

I wash most of my dishes by hand and I honestly wouldn't mind the scent of pumpkin spice to make the job a little bit more pleasurable. No worries, Dawn has already thought of that.

If you look to the right of the Pumpkin Spice Powerwash, you'll also see Fresh Pine and Frosted Cranberry. Procter and Gamble has covered all of the holiday scents through the end of the year.

And then there is this photo that Justin sent me:

(Yes, it's photoshopped.)

What is the oddest pumpkin spice product you've seen? Or maybe a better question is what is the best pumpkin spice product you've used? Inquiring minds would like to know!

  1. Cat litter?!?! I think they've officially taken this pumpkin spice thing too far. As far as I'm concerned, the only place I want pumpkin spice is in my baked goods. I don't even like PSLs.

  2. This is a great post, Bonny! When you come right down to it, pumpkin doesn't really have much flavor so I feel like we're really just talking about cinnamon and nutmeg but the marketing geniuses (!!??) have decided on using and using and using the pumpkin spice label. I do enjoy a pumpkin spice latte but only at home because most of the ones from the coffee shops are way too sweet for me.

  3. This is insane, Bonny!! Deodorant?? Cat litter? Dish soap? This is just proof how gullible we are for marketing ploys. I am with Carole, coffee shop PSL's are way too sweet... but I don't make pumpkin spice syrup at home. We once a year treat ourselves to a bottle of Dunkin' Pumpkin Spice creamer... once it is gone, that itch has been scratched! lol

  4. OMG - this is too, too funny. Deodorant? Cat litter? Pumpkin flavored chips sound awful. I am thinking of making some pumpkin bread with cranberries and pecans in it, but nothing else (except a pie at Thanksgiving).

  5. I am not the family grocery shopper so I had no idea how far this concept had gone - hilarious! I, too, prefer to just made homemade pumpkin spice baked items. I will be making a pumpkin spice cake this weekend for my knit group to enjoy next week!

  6. I love pumpkin and all vegetables that are orange so much. But I have to tell you I have never in my life bought pumpkin spice anything. This is just further evidence that people will buy anything. Just thinking of smelling all those false odors makes my head hurt. I had no idea it had gone this far! And I am with you on the pumpkin roll. I never make baked goods that I will eat all by myself, it's too much self-sabotage! But if I were there, we could share. ;)

  7. The kitty litter made me laugh out loud! I love pumpkin pie but I sure don't want my house smelling like it all the time. Now those Little Debbie snacks....they may have to go on my shopping list for tomorrow.

  9. Oh, it is clear I do not get out enough these days!!! I couldn't participate in posting ridiculous PS things . . . because I didn't FIND any ridiculous PS things. (I will admit to not looking all that hard. . . ) You, though . . . HIT THE JACKPOT, Bonny! Deodorant. And kitty litter. Who knew?????

  10. I don't think I've ever looked for, ordered, purchased, or ate "pumpkin spice" anything -- except in it's natural form as PUMPKIN PIE! In my book, that's the only place it belongs. Maybe I'm a fuddy-duddy. Kate makes pumpkin (not spiced) frozen treats for Kai -- apparently pumpkin & squash are good for dogs (don't know about cats).

  11. oh my goodness - I'm amazed at the variety of Pumpkin Spice "stuff". I did have my one PSL from Starbucks, but I don't think I need anything else?
