No Longer a Virgin

I read Mary's post about Five Things: The Story Behind the Photo with interest. I was touched and a bit envious that she has a group of friends that she can discuss the election and many other things with. She talked about her first red Starbucks cup of the season and enjoying her first Holiday Spice Flat White.

I don't speak Starbucks, so I had to look up what was in a Holiday Spice Flat White. Plenty of calories and fat, but espresso with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, clove, and tangerine sugar sounded quite intriguing. Starbucks just opened here last spring, but I commented to Mary that I have never had coffee at Starbucks, ever. She called me a Starbucks virgin! :-)

And look what I found in my email.

Mary thoughtfully made it easy for me to try a Holiday Spice Flat White myself and even provided some helpful ordering tips to lessen the sweetness and calories.

So I ordered my tall, with non-fat, extra hot milk and one scoop of Holiday Spice and may be in trouble now. It's delicious and I'm already thinking about how much extra I need to walk if I drink one of these every week. There is the fact that it's a seasonal offering, so maybe I should just enjoy them as much as I can while they're still around.

I sat, sipped, knitted (although only two rounds because there were no seats inside and my fingers were frozen in the 35 degree weather outside!), thought about how wonderful the friendships in our knitting and blogging community are, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The only thing that would have made this better is if we could have been enjoying this together in person. Maybe next time in GA where it's warmer!

Thank you, and here's to you, Mary!

  1. This is an awesome story! There are Starbucks around here but none are convenient to me. On the other hand, I can't drive 1/2 mile in any direction without hitting a Dunkin' Donuts. How come you didn't get a red cup?

  2. What a fun story! I live in the land of Starbucks so it is hard to imagine that you have not been to one! My weakness is the pumpkin spice made with almond milk. I like your hat.

  3. I rarely go to starbucks, there isn't one close by and I only drink coffee in the morning. However I would love to be in the midst of cool people :)

  4. Starbucks is an occasional treat for me... usually when I'm on the road because I feel like I'm cheating on Ali otherwise!! ;)

  5. I am a Starbucks fan but it is only an occasional treat as there really aren't any nearby. That said...I did try the holiday spice flat white myself right after Mary's post and I thought it was delicious too! Welcome to the world of crazy priced coffee! :-)

  6. I go to Starbucks more than I really should! We actually have one right in my subdivision- next to the grocery store I go to. So when my husband goes grocery shopping with me (like he did yesterday) - we stop in for a treat. And then I will often pop in to grab a drink on my way to here or there. We have so many Starbucks close to me!! I stay on my same drinks - in the summer it is either a tall vanilla bean frapp with one pump of mocha (like a chocolate slushy) - or a tall double chocolate chip frapp. I always get just a teeny bit of whipped cream on top. In the winter, it is a tall, no whip, no foam, hot chocolate.... sometimes I will ask them to sprinkle cinnamon on top!

  7. Closest Starbucks is 50 miles away (thankfully). But my espresso maker and my spice cabinet could make one of those, I think...

  9. Many years ago, when I drank coffee (and milk), I had an almost daily eggnog latte. They were only available in December so I felt I could indulge. Enjoy your treat, as they're gone too soon!

  11. Hooray for knitters, and knitters who love coffee (and Starbucks)! I'm so glad you finally had the opportunity to try my favorite holiday drink (well, my favorite coffee drink) ... and only wish I could've shared the experience with you in real life. I'd be the one knitting the never ending sweater :-)

  12. What yarn are you knitting there? It looks like some nice camouflage that my sons would even wear.

    1. The yarn is Cascade Yarns Heritage Silk Paints. It's been hard for me to find a nice camouflage yarn, but this is merino and silk, and I'm hoping the hat will work for my youngest son who works at a deer ranch in TX. It is nice to knit with!
