I'm joining Kat and fellow Unravelers with some slightly different making this week. Riding the wave of my previous successful sewing venture, I decided to sew something else.
So what am I making? A cat bandana!
I would never have thought of this on my own. Justin and Jess went to a craft show and bought a bandana for their cat Nugget. Justin said she looked adorable, and I was so surprised by his choice of adjective (I'm not sure he has ever called anything adorable before) that I thought that even I could sew a few cat bandanas.
With only five small seams to sew and a bit of pressing, I soon had a reversible cat bandana for Nugget.
I've resisted cutting and sewing several others until I see how this one works on her. It seems a little bit deep to me, but I can easily adjust the pattern before I make any others. I bet Nugget would love one with cute goldfish and maybe a reversible purple paisley one, too.
I know that many of you have dogs and/or cats, so if your pet has been begging for a bandana of their own, this is the youtube video I used.
I haven't read much this week but did re-listen to Claire Keegan's Foster and Small Things Like These. I also read a pre-publication copy of So Late in the Day. I thought I had read everything that Claire Keegan has written, so I was overjoyed when I saw this little volume was available on NetGalley. So Late in the Day is a collection of three short stories. I felt the same wonder and appreciation I've previously enjoyed after reading something written by Keegan when I read the title story, "So Late in the Day". But after finishing the second and third stories, it dawned on me that I had read them before. That was when I finally read the book description, "Claire Keegan now gifts us three exquisite stories, newly revised and expanded, together forming a brilliant examination of gender dynamics and an arc from Keegan’s earliest to her most recent work." Reading Claire Keegan's stories once is a treat, and reading them more than once is even better. Intricate yet sparse, full of emotion, pleasure, pain, and fully formed characters in the space of a short story- Claire Keegan's writing has it all. This book will be published on November 14, 2023.
What are you making and reading this week?
Ha! Love your cat bandana. The fabric is great (and you definitely need to make the goldfish one too). I would maybe make one but Miss Mabel would not be pleased to wear it I am sure! We don't put anything around her neck anyway since she goes outside and climbs trees. Nugget is adorable! I'm still plugging away on my usual projects (green Hitchhiker and a sock) and I'm reading Erin French's memoir/book on The Lost Kitchen.
ReplyDeleteThat is a cute cat bandana! I bet Nugget will love her expanding bandana wardrobe! :)
ReplyDeleteI just started So Late in the Day, and so far I am loving it. Her writing is just so brilliant.
doesn't that look like a quick satisfying project for summer! Love the cat photos :)
ReplyDeleteADORABLE! That's really the only adjective for Nugget in her bandana! I love the fabric you chose -- and I especially hope Nugget gets a goldfish bandana. How perfect is that? Now I'm wondering if JoJo might like a bandana??? Or either of my two "grand-cats?" Or my "grand-dog?" So many possibilities here! XO
ReplyDeleteAwww, Nugget looks so sweet in her bandana! I'm sure if someone told you a couple of years ago that you'd be sewing cat bandanas, you'd probably look at them like they had a second head, but it looks like a fun project!
ReplyDeleteI am not sure either of our cats would tolerate a bandana ‘round their neck. Yours sure is cute, though.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous=kmkat. Not sure why it doesn’t recognize me.
ReplyDeleteThat is super cute! I don't think Fred & George would tolerate it, however!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!! Adorable, indeed! I love your unexpected detour.
ReplyDeleteThat goldfish fabric is so perfect for a cat's bandana (and btw- is there a purpose to a cat's bandana? besides being adorable I mean!) I'm so glad we're getting more Claire Keegan - she is a master of packing meaning into few words. I finally got to read Queen of Dirt Island and y'all were right - it was lovely. I have Return to Valetto waiting at the library!!
ReplyDeleteHa! I bet Nugget will look quite spiffy in his new bandana. I'm knitting a pair of shortie socks. Even better I picked up The Violin Conspiracy at the Library and found Remarkably Bright Creatures on Hoopla.
