I'm happy to join Kat and fellow Unravelers for Unraveled Wednesday with two knitting projects. I did separate the yoke and the sleeve stitches on the Cloud Cover cardigan.
The directions have you knit the left sleeve flat and then the right sleeve. Given my lack of experience with sweater construction, I'm doing what the directions tell me to do. The free needle on the left is the left sleeve in progress, and the taped-together needle is holding the rest of the stitches out of the way. Given that the sweater now has two needles and two balls of yarn attached, it's not too easy to work on it as a traveling project away from home. So I searched my stash, found this yarn (Fibernymph Dye Works Bounce in Home for Christmas that I bought about eight years ago), and am having great fun working on a sock.
I took it to Ryan's and it's the perfect traveling project. I've basically ignored the sweater since I started the sock and am already through the gusset decreases and cruising down the foot. Since they are sort of Christmas socks it would be nice to get them done in a somewhat timely fashion. They'll also be the perfect project to test my neck light tonight. People complain about Jeff Bezos and Amazon, but they deliver important things like neck lights promptly.
I'm waiting for a few holds from the library so reading has been slow this week. I haven't finished anything, but I did start The Boys by Katie Hafner. So far, so good.
What are you making and reading this week?
Nice progress on the sweater! And those Christmas socks look nice. Love the stripes. I predict they will be finished in no time and you'll be back to the sleeves. My reading has been poor lately - I can't seem to settle on anything!
ReplyDeleteLet's try this again: I love the color of the sweater and the socks look like great Christmas socks! When my sweaters reach the beast stage that you are in, I use one of those big safety pin style stitch holders to pin the extra ball of yarn somewhere out of the way on the body of the knitting. That keeps it out of the way and prevents tangling with the active ball of yarn. Something like this: https://www.knitpicks.com/stitch-holder/p/80023?
ReplyDeleteYour striped socks (almost) make me want to start knitting socks again! Those are just charming stripes, and I bet you'll have no time finishing them (both) to wear through the holiday season. And the thing about sweater-knitting . . . is that no matter the construction, you always get to that unwieldy bulky stage. And it almost always involves the sleeves (in one form or other). Still. You're making good progress -- and it's such a lovely color! XO
ReplyDeleteThat sweater on those leaves... gorgeous! And go you for making it to the Great Divide! But those socks! Too cute! :)
ReplyDeleteMy phone kindly alerted me last night that a book I had been waiting for was available! I started Mouth to Mouth last night... a few pages in and I am hooked!
Your sweater is really growing! And it looks so fetching on that bed of golden leaves. I look forward to seeing how far you've progressed by this time next week. I can understand why the sock has drawn your attention -- there's some sort of magic in self-striping that keeps you knitting.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to finish up a nonfiction book about WWII from Netgalley, but The Marriage Portrait is absolutely up next!
what a photo background to your sweater!! Love the progress and I'm knitting socks as well. They are comfort knitting.
ReplyDeleteI love both of your projects, Bonny, but you must knit the one you are most "into"! You will get back to the sweater in time, and you will be refreshed from your comfort knitting. I think your sweater is going to be winner. You really do take lovely photos!
ReplyDeleteYour sock is looking fab! I've been making chocolate orange covers!
ReplyDeleteThose are great looking Christmas socks! I still love the yellow leaves as a backdrop for that blue sweater, too!
ReplyDeleteThat is an interesting way to do the sleeves. Love your socks. I had 3 holds come in within a week. I finished the first and brought it back today and have to plug through the 2nd so I can read the 3rd before it's due back. Hopefully the rest of my holds will wait till the middle/end of the month to come in.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was interesting, too, but I'm a rule-follower (much of the time) so that's what I'm doing. It seems like it never rains, but pours when it comes to holds.
DeleteYour sweater against those leaves is so pretty. Self-striping socks are potato chip knitting for sure. I say knit what makes you happiest. The library holds do seem to come in at the same time. I'm finishing up The Round House by Louise Erdrich for the Erdrich-along. I read a bit today as our internet was down until late afternoon.
