My kids think I'm old and stuck in my ways. They may be right, but I prefer to think of it more along the lines that I've been alive long enough to know what works best for me. However you look at it, I am always open to new suggestions in the areas of food and drink. My kids have given me some suggestions about both recently and I'd like to share some of the better ones with you.
Ryan called one day all excited about a new condiment he found at the grocery store - chipotle aioli. He said it's really delicious, especially on roast beef sandwiches. I was excited to try it because John's palate is geared towards the bland, so I'm always looking for ways to add a little spice to the things I eat. I looked for it in two stores, finally found it at a third, and thoroughly enjoyed my chipotle aioli roast beef sandwich.
Justin left a little bit of ice cream in our freezer for three weeks, and one day I finished it up. I later felt bad about eating it so I bought him another pint to replace it. He told me this week there was an even better flavor and he had gotten me a pint. I'm now the proud owner of a pint of Little Debbie Zebra Cakes ice cream and proud that I haven't gobbled it all up in one sitting.
Mailing really likes White Claw, but I'm not a fan...I'll just stick with my wine (I do like plain seltzer though). I think ANY kind of Aioli is good...but chipotle aioli sounds particularly good. I'll need to look for that.
ReplyDeleteThe older I get the spicier I want my food to be, but not as spicy as what my husband seeks out! That is unbearable to eat to me :)
ReplyDeleteI've been unimpressed with alcoholic seltzers, but I've only had them on their own and never thought to use them as mixers. If you'd like another suggestion for non-coffee caffeine, I've discovered that Good and Gather (a Target food brand) makes a sparkling water with caffeine (only 35 mg) in a pear/hibiscus flavor that tastes like cream soda to me. I will occasionally have one in the afternoon if I've had a particularly active day and need to stay awake through the end of the work day.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I remain curious about nearly everything at my advanced age, I have found that there are several things I no longer need to explore, so I go with your assessment that I have discovered what works for me. I do love a bit of horseradish mixed with mayo for a roast beef sandwich.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw the photo, I thought you were going to explain how tasty Little Debbie Zebra Cakes/Chipotle Aioli SUNDAES were. Phew. I'm glad they're tasty separately but not necessarily together. :-) I've never tried White Claw, but my daughter loves it. . .
ReplyDeleteI had this exact SAME thought about the sundae :-) the hit hard seltzer at the lake last week was Topo Chico ... I haven't tried it yet.
DeleteLOL I had the exact same thoughts as Kym... and I was really really worried! My daughters love the White Claw as well, but I have yet to try one!
ReplyDeleteThe hard seltzers are a hit in my knitting group!
ReplyDeleteI don't eat ice cream very often, and Rusty is pretty particular about his -- Lactose-free VANILLA (thank goodness Vanilla is his favorite because I haven't found any other LF flavors!) -- but now and then I walk down the frozen treats aisle to see what's new. I am SO excited about that Little Debbie Zebra Cake ice cream! Zebra Cake were Maddy's favorite treat when she was a kid!! I'm going to try to find some to surprise/welcome her home (3 WEEKS FROM TODAY!).
ReplyDeleteMy son-in-law loves Monster energy drinks and my daughters like White Claw. I've never tried either! I do think that Chiptle Aioli sauce sounds great although I don't care for roast beef. I'm just glad you didn't recommend having it with the ice cream!
ReplyDeleteOh the things our kids help us understand. The sauce and the ice cream sound interesting to me. I've never seen either but then I haven't looked.
