... is for roofing (and a little goofing, too).
This is the pool shed in NJ. The above ground pool is long gone and the shed now houses a motorcycle and garden equipment, but it still gets called the pool shed.
For some reason, the shingles on the front half had really deteriorated over the past year. We had shingles left over from roofing the house and barn and John calculated that there would be just enough to do the shed. So he and Justin got to work.
My job was to act as the "go-fer". Luckily there wasn't much to fetch, so I was able to stay on the ground, bag up the old roofing for disposal, and make sure there were no roofing nails and staples in the driveway. (Clearly, this was the most important task.)
There were several problems, but that wasn't unexpected. John's calculations weren't spot on, so they were three shingles short, but made do somehow. They tried to save the roof cap when they removed the old roofing, but it wasn't salvageable. We had to go to Lowe's for two new sections of roof cap, and we celebrated with a well-deserved lunch out, toasting the new roof and the fact that I had done such a good job keeping nails and staples out of the driveway.
They finished installing the roof cap and posed for an American Gothic roofing photo about 30 seconds before it started raining. Job well done, guys!
Well done! I always get nervous when Fletch gets on the roof to do something/anything...but the pool shed doesn't look too had (only one story).
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it was a successful repair, and there was no excitement. Lucky that Justin was there to get on that roof! There's nothing quite as satisfying as a job well done! A great way to start the week.
ReplyDeleteBravo! Well done, gentlemen! (and extra cheers to the nail/staple finder!)
ReplyDeleteThat is the most adorable pool shed EVER! (I'd be lobbying hard to turn it into a garden shed . . . ) Nicely done -- and I love that American Gothic photo. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love that it's still called the Pool Shed. And it's so cute -- that overhang!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a good days work! Isn't it funny how names like that stick? We have a little den that we still call "the gun room" because long long ago it's where we had our gun safe. I keep trying to get everyone to call it then den but my efforts have failed.
ReplyDeleteAdorable shed!
ReplyDeletecome do my roof!! we need a new one in a few years (fingers crossed we are right that we have a few years) we bought a house that needs some upkeep. Love you have a pool shed without a pool, so maybe it's a 'shed' now? We need one of those as well.
ReplyDeleteThe last picture is the best (except they look like they're about to laugh -- not quite American Gothic!). I think you did have the most important job, and you all worked hard and deserved that lunch out to celebrate!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that last photo! and kudos to EVERYone for a job well-done!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! Kudos to the guys; they are a great team. Send them south...I need some garage roof work done, too ;-)).
ReplyDeleteCheers~
Ha! I love every part of this post. I am so glad those guys had a willing "go-fer" and quality control person to keep the nails off the driveway. Nails in tires are a PIA and always seem to happen very inconveniently.
ReplyDeletePicking up the roofing nails! Every time someone on our street gets their roof done our car ends up with a nail and a 'slow' leak. Every time. There is a current roofing project and the other day my husband and I were both, "Yep, need to go the other direction down the street for a the next month."
ReplyDeleteExactly! That's why I was assigned the most important job.
