2 Tablespoons instant coffee, 2 Tablespoons sugar, and 2 Tablespoons hot water,
whisk for ~ 2 minutes,
and voilĂ ; it does work! The mixture changes color and then gets thicker, just as it is supposed to. I probably could have whisked for another couple minutes, but I was anxious to taste it. (My immersion blender is in MD, but I think it would be the perfect tool to use.) I poured half of it into a glass of warm milk (cold would work just as well), mixed it up, and enjoyed.
A warm, creamy glass of coffee made a comforting thing to hold onto and drink while the furnace guy was here to repair our broken furnace. We talked to each other from about 10 feet apart, but I was a little bit nervous when he coughed a few times. It could have been the caustic chemicals he was using to clean the boiler coil, but I was glad for a warm drink to hold and sip.
I've read about this in so many places lately, too. Good for you for trying it out. Alas, there is no instant coffee in this house.
ReplyDeleteLike Carole, I also have no instant coffee, but I've been seeing this so many places that I've been tempted to put it on the shopping list. Then again, if I'm going to have that much sugar, I think I'd rather have it in a dessert.
ReplyDeletebummer about the furnace! We were at the grocery store (with masks on) and my husband coughed and I yelled at him that people will think he's sick! (he is not) We had a plumber here a few weeks ago and when he approached within two feet of me to give me the bill I was terrified...
ReplyDeleteSorry about your furnace! And, you would think in April it would be ok...but 20's here this a.m.!!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this coffee, but it sounds good. I brew strong coffee (on the stove top usually...and usually Cafe du Monde which is coffee & chicory). I froth milk in my mug and heat it in the microwave and then pour my brewed coffee over. Sort of cafe au lait, sort of cappuccino, sort of my own concoction. But I may need to get some instant coffee to have on hand and to try this. (Plus I'm thinking a little instant coffee added to a chocolate icing recipe.....)
I have coffee every morning, 2 big mugs of it, cold brew coffee with heavy cream. In the last couple of months, needing more comfort where I can get it, I have been adding a heaping spoon of cocoa and a teaspoon of sugar. Voila! Homemade cafe mocha, kinda. It has really grown on me. I have not heard of this coffee that you mention, but it sounds good. I do have instant coffee in the house, but it is Vietnamese instant coffee, so already has sweetener and creamer in the mix. I wonder how many new things we are trying these days to add variety to our stay at home lives?
ReplyDeleteIt's chemistry!!!! :-) I love this, and would love to try it . . . if I can find any instant coffee in the house. (Maybe? Not sure.) So sorry about your furnace -- but glad you were able to get it repaired. XO
ReplyDeleteMy brain went to the same place Kym's did - yay for chemistry!! I am going to give this a try today! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to remember to add instant coffee to my shopping list next time I venture out...it looks good!
ReplyDeleteI rarely drink coffee but did have a small jar of instant that I found way back in the pantry. It was sort of like magic and just what I wanted at the time!
DeleteI am going to try it THANKS!!!! Mmmmmmm.
ReplyDeleteThis is new to me. I have to stick to decaf but otherwise I'd give it a try.
ReplyDeleteI have seen this on Instagram, and wondered what it was all about. I knew Instant Coffee - which we do not have (Coffee Drinkers here. only beans!) - so thank you for the review. All that said, a mug of half steamed milk and half coffee is balm for most things, I find. (Hope your furnace is fixed!)
ReplyDeleteSmith would like this! A friend wasn't too impressed with the way her whatev coffee but thought it would be great on ice cream!
