You already saw the first purchase yesterday — the skeins I ordered from The Loopy Ewe when I had a moment of inspiration with my Nervous Breakdown Hitchhiker. I'm anxious to get to the point where I add stripes of these colors, and I'm getting quite a bit of enjoyment from just having these skeins next to my knitting chair.
I thought that maybe my sister needed another gift in addition to socks for her 60th birthday, so I searched Etsy for something she loves — sea glass. I don't think she reads my blog, but if you happen to see this, Jill, please act surprised.
I came upon this next one while I was looking through Etsy. It was inexpensive, cobalt blue, small, and unique, so now it's mine. It's an antique dosing cup, although I don't know exactly what was being dosed. Maybe something alcoholic? I was intrigued by the markings for tea and dessert, so now it's on my windowsill in MD.
Recently it's felt like things are going to hell in a handbasket at the speed of a runaway roller coaster, and while I know it's not the answer to things that are beyond my control, a little retail therapy certainly didn't hurt! What have you purchased lately?
Be sure to visit Carole for more Three on Thursday thoughts.
Hmm, dosing oneself with dessert doesn't sound like such a bad thing!
ReplyDeleteI was going to say that my most recent purchase wasn't so interesting (a portable utensil set and Seabands for my daughter), but I forgot that I also ordered some yarn this week! It's from my local dyer friend, so once she puts it in the mail, it generally takes a day to get to me.
I love that dosing cup--and in all my flea marketing, I've never seen one!? Good find. My recent retail therapy was a sweater at my thrift store's annual 99-cent sweater sale. Nothing special, just a manufactured extra long cardigan--but I like the stripes. gray, white, navy, and neon green. That zing of neon green is a tiny bit out of character for me and it really pops, and that makes me happy!
ReplyDeleteRetail therapy is even better at the thrift shop — affordable and fun!
DeleteMy most recent purchase includes some new essential oils and yarn from WEBS and Loopy Ewe for a Night Shift Shawl.
ReplyDeleteFabric, and more fabric! But I also ordered dishes and out of 12 items 3 were broken!!! So back to the store they go.
ReplyDeleteGood buys, one and all! I especially love that sea glass pendant!
ReplyDeleteI was just browsing Etsy this morning. Love that charm
ReplyDeleteThe blue glass is so pretty! My grandmother collected blue glass and my mom has a few of the pieces now. I treated myself to a short stack of new-to-me books yesterday when my mom and I visited our local used bookstore. A little retail therapy is good for the soul!
ReplyDeleteI am trying hard to not buy anything...saving my pennies for the Allentown Fiber Festival, but I love all your purchases - each one has some blue (or a lot of blue) in it!! And now that I've written this, I realized a package arrived from Amazon yesterday - I bought a silicone popcorn popper for the microwave. I've used brown bags to pop kernels before but one time started a fire. Now I feel safer! And, it was cheap ($12 or $13).
ReplyDeleteCobalt blue has always been a favorite! And that pendant for your sister is lovely!!
ReplyDeleteI bought a few books recently, and (another) tote bag, and souvenir photographs. What can I say?? I'm easy that way.
I bought Booney a new dog bed today while waiting for Doug to get out of an eye appointment. I also bought two copies of Tell Me More because everyone says it's a must. Love, love, love that glass!
ReplyDeleteYou made some excellent Etsy purchases, Bonny! (Your sister is SUPER lucky. . . Just sayin.) Hmmm. The most recent purchase I made was a new "shopper" (too fancy to call it a simple tote bag) and 2 paintbrushes. XO
ReplyDeleteOOOH, I love that sea glass, and I am a real sucker for cobalt glass as well. Good purchases, Bonny. I am so sorry to hear that things seem to be going to hell in a hand basket, but my mother always said at the speed of a runaway train. (I have never heard anyone else but me and my mother say that. What does it mean? I guess I will have to look that up now that you have pointed it out to me. I say it, but no one has ever asked me what it means.) I hope things get better soon. It's not a good feeling, but life, ya know? You are an expert manager, or so it seems, so I hope it all seems more manageable soon. Sending really good wishes your way.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful purchases! Your post made me step back and think. I haven't shopped in so long I had to look at my bank account to see. I haven't even done any real grocery shopping this month! For the entire month of February, I have purchased coffee & donuts, deodorant, cookies and lots and lots of yarn. WAY too much yarn, if there can be such a thing. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope the cobalt blue cup makes you happier--it's a beauty, as is the pendant. I impulse bought a print by an artist of a mermaid knitting, the artist sad she'd add in glasses when I told her I consider it a portrait :-)
ReplyDeleteOh I like that cobalt cup. Very interesting. I wasn't going to buy any fingering yarn for awhile but like you I was anxious so after a PT appointment I stopped by a LYS and picked up a soft skein of merino for future fingerless mitts. Because I only have about ten pairs already!!
ReplyDeleteI love cobalt glass, and even though I lack the true collector gene, I have a small collection of it. Your dosing cup is fabulous! My last purchase was calcium supplements from Amazon. So exciting... not.
