And I did, with a vodka and tonic with lots of limes, just like I like them. While I cooled off, I decided what I wanted to eat. I was tempted to try something new, but decided to go with my favorite (so far) buffalo chicken egg rolls.
They were perfect and I was in heaven for the next hour. Good food, good drink, reading a good book, the only thing missing was good company in the form of Ryan (but I texted him to let him know he was missed).
The sky looked a little threatening, but I decided to start the 20 minute walk home. About five minutes in, it started to sprinkle, but the rain just dropped the temperature a few degrees and it wasn't unpleasant at all.
I changed my clothes, threw them in the washer, mopped the kitchen floor and everywhere else I had dripped, and was soon back to normal. Note to self: bring an umbrella to Elkton and check the weather before my visit next week. I enjoyed myself, didn't melt in the rain, and maybe someday the waitress/owner will recognize me and say "Welcome back" or "Good to see you again". Then I'll really count myself as a regular!
This is a great story, I love that you shared this slice of your day with us. I saw that shoe picture and (before I read your words) I was thinking . . . that does NOT look like a shoe I would picture Bonny wearing! hahaha Good for you for walking, even in the rain. I think I'd have called an uber.
ReplyDeleteWell, that was certainly an adventure! I'm glad that if you had to get soaked, it was at least on the way home. You did leave one part of the story out, however. Did the leftovers survive the deluge?
ReplyDeleteI think this sounds like a good afternoon - even the getting wet part, since you were on your way home an could change into dry clothes!
ReplyDeleteI love that you and Ryan found this place! And, buffalo chicken egg rolls---be still my heart! Those sound amazing! I love that you shared photos of your walk - and I am sorry about the downpour, but I bet it was refreshing in that heat!
ReplyDeleteHave an amazing weekend, Bonny!
That sounds like such a good time Bonny - even getting wet - especially since it was so HOT. Those buffalo chicken egg rolls look AMAZING. I wonder if a prince will find the lost shoe.....
ReplyDeleteI'll bet that rain felt good!! I walked down to 313 a couple of weeks ago -- with my umbrella -- and it's so nice to have a nice place like that so close by! Have a wonderful weekend, Bonny!
ReplyDeleteI made one of my now closest friends that way when I first moved to Winchendon after we were married. (32 years ago!) I started by doing take out, then sat at the counter and eventually ended up drinking peppermint schnapps after closing most Friday nights while Doug stayed home and watched sports. I'll bet you're just a couple of visits away from a new friend! xo
ReplyDeletesometimes it's fun to be caught in a rainstorm, you feel alive. That restaurant looks mighty good and one that I would like!
ReplyDeleteWe have a couple of places that we go that we are “regulars”. It’s a nice feeling to know the staff and have them recognize us.
ReplyDeleteAnd I always wonder about those lost shoes on the streets, there must be a story behind them.
I am totally intrigued by buffalo wing egg rolls! They don't look like egg rolls, hmmm...I think it is fabulous that you take the initiative to just go and do what you please like this. And you really did deserve it after all that work. I always dread getting caught in the rain, but I don't know why. It usually feels pretty good, and I am not concerned very much with the way I look these days - LOL. I have developed many theories about that one shoe phenomenon over the years. I see them everywhere! My favorite is that they got beamed up and a shoe fell off (tee hee). What's your theory?
ReplyDeleteYAY you for venturing out on your own ... and making yourself a regular :-) I do not have a good umbrella for walks like that, but I'm in the market for one!
ReplyDeleteI often eat lunch alone and I'm surprised when people tell me they won't go out if they're not with someone. They're really missing out. Right? I don't mind walking in a drizzly rainstorm, but being drenched does not sound fun (and wouldn't often happen around here). At least you found it refreshing, but what a way to beat the heat!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind going out alone at all! I guess I got used to it when Fireman worked 24 hour shifts.
ReplyDeleteI agree; it's great! I got to read, eat, and drink by myself, but also got to interact with other patrons and the bartender/waitress/owner.
DeleteSoon you will be a regular at that restaurant. I bet you were soaked by the time you got home. I hope the take-out box made it without falling apart. And that shoe - a modern day Cinderella story?
ReplyDeleteI loved your "Wander*" date with self - rain and all. Enjoy the next one and thx for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCheers~
*Wander is how I define those outings I take when I'go to a museum on the Smithsonian Mall or someplace for "me time."
