While paying more attention to the groundhog than knitting, I made a mistake on a kfb. I tried to drop back and fix it, but just succeeded in making more mistakes. So there was actual unraveling while I ripped out five rows,
My attention was momentarily distracted, but I've got my eye on you, groundhog. I'll be picking peas next week, and you better not have nibbled a single one.
I can also watch for the groundhog while I listen to Milkman. I was honestly a little afraid of starting this one (I wouldn't be smart enough to read it or wouldn't understand it), but it may be close to genius. How Anna Burns can tell a story about a place and people without naming that place or those people is a marvel, and I am thoroughly enjoying it.
What are you making and reading this week?
Even unraveled that yarn is gorgeous! And, woe to that groundhog - stay out of that garden!!
ReplyDeleteI am with you on Milkman - it is genius.
I would say that Milkman is the best book I've read this year and I agree, it is genius!
ReplyDeleteI'm about halfway through The Murmur of Bees by Sofia Segovia. It was published in Mexico a few years ago and the English translation was released this year. I am enjoying it and care deeply about the characters.
I fell asleep listening to Milkman last night. Ordinarily I'm irritated with myself when I do this, but I'm enjoying going back and re-listening. It's amazing to me that I can keep track of characters so much better this way than in books where they are given names!
DeleteMy to-be-read list gets longer every week! Looks like there's a wait for this one at the library, so perhaps I'll get to it later in the summer.
ReplyDeleteGroundhogs are such devious creatures. We had one living under our deck for a time, and he caused a lot of damage to our garden. But we evicted him (and got our handyman to put some wood planks along the sides of the deck so that nothing can get under it). Now we just have those annoying squirrels to deal with.
Sorry you had to unravel a bit, but Yay for getting the stitches back on the needles successfully! Those groundhogs are EVERYWHERE this year! There is something so satisfying about looking at laundry on a line, isn't there?
ReplyDeleteLiterally the DAY we planted our vegetables a groundhog showed up. What.the.hell. Anyway, Dale has located his den and he may be, errrr, evicted soon. I started Milkman and gave up on it but I think it was just the wrong time for me to attempt it. I will give it another shot one of these days.
ReplyDeleteThat hitchhiker is looking very good, Bonny! I have never had to contend with groundhogs, but it seems I have every other creature known to man in my backyard. I am reading Dead Woman Walking, and it is just OK. You have really got me intrigued about Milkman. I will have to see if I can get it at the library.
ReplyDeleteBased on your, Kat's and others' comments, I just placed a hold on Milkman...10 weeks! I may use my Audible account before then. Will see...good luck with that groundhog...
ReplyDeleteCheers~
Keep your eye on that groundhog. The critters do play havoc in the gardens. That hitchhiker is coming along - just the thing for June knitting outdoors. That bright green and yellow is summery and cheerful. It will be fun to wear in the winter when we long for color.
ReplyDeleteIm asking my son if he read The Murmur of Bees. Im listening to podcast: Mo obituaries . Im listening to baseball.
ReplyDeleteI don't want him to ruin your garden, but I love that you have a groundhog!
ReplyDeleteMilkman is my favorite of the year (along with Circe). So disappointed it didn't win the Woman's Prize. You are a true knitter if you're willing to rip out and pick up a host of stitches to begin again! Needs must! Hope the groundhog knows you're watching!
ReplyDeletehummm... I wonder if the groundhog sees your knitting and thinks "LUNCH"?! ;-) (of course maybe peas really smell better)
ReplyDeleteThe list for Milkman is long at my library and the reviews are so mixed, I'm sitting this one out. at least for now!
bummer about the mistake and good luck with the groundhog! Mine win all the time because I let them. I love the gradient yarn so very much!!
