Welcome to Winter!
This photo is a couple of years old and I'm sure that we don't have quite this much snow waiting for us in NJ, but it looms large in my mind. We originally intended to drive home yesterday, but it seems the forecasters missed the mark on this storm. We packed up and headed north yesterday afternoon, but when it took us 90 minutes to drive the five miles to the 95 north entrance ramp, we decided to turn around. Luckily, it only took us 45 minutes to get back to the MD house, so we'll give it a try again today. (Of course, John has important meetings this afternoon, so it won't be early.)
My neighbor in Flemington says it's still snowing there, with about eight inches on the ground, but it has stopped in Elkton this morning. I've shoveled here (not a difficult job and it seems I was the only one who cared about a clear sidewalk) so we'll give it another try later today. I'm going to pack plenty of patience because traveling north on 95 on a Friday afternoon with snow on the ground is not for the feint of heart. I wish Justin was waiting for us (25-year-old young men are excellent shovelers!) but all we've got is a couple of 60-year olds. Welcome to winter and have a lovely weekend!
Our early snow yesterday was a bust, but we have about an inch over night here in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. Thankfully it is melting as quickly as it fell!
ReplyDeleteAnd so it begins! 6 or so messy inches here. Looks like the leaves will be staying on the ground this year!
ReplyDeleteYup - Winter has come. *They* certainly did not forecast this one correctly. I was thinking of you last night and hoping you had waited to come back North. The roads were a mess and the traffic was worse than the roads. No issues this morning though!! Safe travels up.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't exactly balmy here, but so weird to be sitting in snow-free Wisconsin yesterday and reading about 8" of snow in St. Louis and people spending 6 hours in their car trying to get someplace that normally takes a half-hour tops. I hope your travels are swift & smooth today, and that your backs hold out for the shoveling!! Happy weekend?? ;)
ReplyDeleteAh, winter. le sigh. Here's to a safe and quick trip back to NJ!
ReplyDeleteOur snow is melting quickly, thank goodness! I'm just not mentally prepared for snow yet!
ReplyDeletewe got NINE inches and I lost power. I sound like a broken record when it comes to losing power :) But now I have electricity and the internet and i'm happy again.
ReplyDeleteWe had an inch of snow and sleet here in Memphis overnight yesterday. It was a mess, but melted yesterday. Not a lot of precip, I know, but it's just about unheard of this far south this early in the season. Here's hoping this does not mean a hard winter, but if it does, we will all cope. I will be thinking of you guys this afternoon and wishing you the very best. Take good care!
ReplyDeleteWe've had quite a bit of snow, off and on, for the last week. It dumps, then it melts, dumps, melts, and so on. It's really making a mess of all the leaves . . . still on the ground and sidewalks. It's hard to rake when you're shoveling. . .
ReplyDeleteXO
I hope your travels were smooth.
Travel safely. It is so odd to have so much snow so early!!!
ReplyDeleteWe're home safely and all shoveled out now, so life is good. It does seem odd to have snow so early until I remember Super Storm Sandy and all the snow we had at Halloween that year with the trees still in full leaf!
DeleteI am glad to read above that you are home safely. I-95 is not for the feint of heart on a good weather day. Crazy weather patterns. Today Nebraska was a sunny 50 degrees, perfect for a good long walk. Tomorrow the temperature is going to drop but no snow in our forecast.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're home ... and hope there's no more snow at least until December!
