More Gratitude

It was so easy to compose my gratitude list yesterday that I even had a few left over and decided to continue counting my blessings. So, here are five more things.

Pop Tarts! I know they're not healthy and contain mostly empty calories, but I still love them. I haven't had one in several years, so I'm going to appreciate the six left in the box.

My second cup of tea on this chilly, rainy day.

This little sparrow spends most of the day sitting right here at the bird feeder. I think he might have some sort of beak malformation. I'm able to get relatively close to him, but not close enough to figure out what's going on. I'm glad to provide seed for him and grateful that he's chosen one of my feeders.

I'm grateful for the ability to vote. This seems especially true in these mid-term elections and I have very high hopes for the outcome, but whatever happens, I value the right to vote.

This so important, I'll say it twice. I'm grateful to be able to vote and also grateful for one more of Roger Angell's pieces. (E.B. White's stepson still has it.) Go vote and be "enthralled by the moment and its meaning."

  1. I dislike most birds but love the little sparrows. They're so sweet. I'm glad this one has found a comfortable place in your feeder.

  2. That tree behind the bird feeder is gorgeous! the right - and ability! - to vote are precious. (and it's rainy here today, so I'm also grateful I was able to vote early!)

  3. Every day I wish I had a place to put a feeder (cost of condo life) but my vantage of the pine tree limbs offers some view opportunities, for which I am grateful! I am also grateful I was able to vote weeks ago. We're going to have a very high turnout in Utah, in part because we have early voting as well as mail in ballots. Fingers crossed!

  4. Sweet little bird! Lines were long this a.m. at the polls, but everyone was pleasant (despite the less than pleasant weather). Hmmmmm - pop tarts. I have not had one in ages. I like the plain ones (no frosting), and I may just need to get some on the next shopping trip!

  6. Brown sugar cinnamon - with frosting is the only way to go! I can't even imagine the last time I had a pop tart! 7:00 tonight...Doug, Patty and Boone will be off to vote!

  7. I love that Roger Angell piece! I voted this morning and every time I vote I think of my grandmothers and how much the right to vote meant to them. To vote was sacred to them and they always reminded me that they didn't have to tell anyone who they voted for...not even their husbands!

    1. I love almost everything that Roger Angell writes, and that's saying something. He writes mainly about baseball, which isn't really my thing, but I love them anyway. I especially love his pieces on voting!

  8. I have 3 bird feeders up in my back yard, and I have lots of those sparrows nesting in my yard. I think that is a house sparrow. I have one that will sit on the feeder even when I take it off the hook. After that I had to look it up! They are very tame around people because they have lived with humans for thousands of years, so the bird book says. I am not particularly fond of pop tarts, but I have many other sweet vices; I have a terrible sweet tooth that I _try_ to keep under control. I read an article a couple of days ago about how hard the suffragettes worked to get the vote from the 1840's until they succeeded in 1920. How apathetic we have become in such a short time! Women should be so proud to be able to vote! Thanks for the Roger Angell piece. I do feel a bit reverent for all that has come before when I vote. Fingers crossed, Bonny, I am still hopeful.
