Words in the Wild ...

... and in my purse and on my mind.

When I was in Colorado visiting Ryan, I ran some errands for him. I was waiting at the Walgreens counter with my purchases when I saw this notebook. I almost always try to resist impulse purchases of things I don't really need, but it turns out I needed this.

Over the past few months I've had a series of experiences that have felt a lot like failures. Some have been my fault, others I think I could have prevented, and some were just fate, but no matter the cause there have still been a lot of them. I did need a new notebook for my to-do lists, but even more, I felt that I needed this notebook. It now has a place in my purse where it reminds me every day that behind these failures, there are lessons for me to learn. I haven't discovered all of them yet, but this notebook is serving as a colorful, necessary reminder.

  1. Most excellent advice! And, I am with you... some days I just want the lesson to be foremost in my mind rather than elusive.

  3. "Failure" is such a loaded word. (As in loaded with guilt and shame and insecurity and fear and all those other things that go bump in the night.) You keep that notebook close at hand -- because it speaks wise words! ALWAYS a lesson. NEVER a failure. XOXO

    1. Oh, Kathy, that is such a delightfully wonderful way to put it! Thank you, and I'm going to reread this when the feeling of failure is stronger than the one of learning lessons.

  6. Failures are the only way we learn our boundaries and where we need to work to improve. The only way to fail is to do something! No attempts, no failures. That's not how any of us want to live, so let go of that, Bonny. I think it may have something to do with all the chaos in your life. Lots of brand new to you challenges, full of lessons. If I saw that notebook, I would have bought it as well. It's the perfect portable brain.

  8. ...and how cool you found that notebook in the checkout line at Walgreens. Karma, my friend. pure karma. and also wise words that I hope you can take to heart more now that you're carrying them with you! (also, did they have fun pens to go with?!)

  10. A very wise thought. I am glad you shared the notebook with all of us. We all bump into those life lessons now and then. Some are easier than others to understand and appreciate. I think you are one strong woman to face life with this kind of attitude. Keep on keeping on.
