Flowers are having a tough time of it this spring. This is what my poor hyacinths looked like when I left on Monday, bowed down by the weight of six inches of snow. I got home late last night in the dark, but I'm sure they are looking much better. Then I looked at the weather forecast, and it's deja vu all over again on Saturday.
Thankfully I was greeted by two more delightful floral sights upon my return; the lovely blossoms on my Easter cactus,
and a surprise second flower shoot on my amaryllis.
Hopefully someday soon I'll be taking more photos of flowers, all of them without any snow in sight.
I watch your blog for the purple christmas cactus all the time. Is it really as purple as it looks? you posted last year and I was thrilled to see that one. I bought one (not) purple for 75 cents after christmas and this year it bloomed at christmas and now it' blooming again!! Iam an everyday lurker
ReplyDeleteThat Christmas cactus really is purple (leaning a bit towards pink, but still purple)! Whenever pieces of any of my Christmas cactuses break off, I can't resist planting them. I have one replanted piece that has a bud on it now, and I will definitely post a picture if it turns out to be from the purple one. Congratulations on your double-blooming cactus! Mine usually only ever bloom once/year, but you must be treating yours really well to get blossoms again so soon! Thanks so much for taking your time to read; I appreciate it along with your comment!
DeleteOh, WOW! I'm so happy to see all those inside blooms! (Because, oh man. . . the outside blooms are just heartbreaking this spring.) XOXO
ReplyDeleteWow!! That amarylis is just amazing!! And, yes, our exterior flowers are experiencing the same nonsense over here! BOOOO snow! (And, Welcome HOME!!)
ReplyDeleteHooray for inside blooms! (and BOO for Snow ... the 2nd weekend of April!)
ReplyDeleteWelcome Home! Wow to your Amaryllis - what a lovely surprise and your Easter Cactus is gorgeous. I cannot believe Saturday's forecast.....
ReplyDeleteWell, if we had any flowers outside... that's what they'd look like! The kids and I did discover some tulips emerging the other day, and also rhubarb!!
ReplyDeleteYou have some really excellent things going on inside and I'm sad to hear you're spring is struggling to take hold. April can be so cruel.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing your indoor flower blooms! My poor daffodils are struggling after 4" of snow on Sunday, nearly 7" of rain in a 12 hour period on Tuesday (a truly horrible & frightening storm), followed by frigid temps...a few are in bud, but are really beaten down. It feels like February outside and we have more snow in the forecast! I'm waiting for that first soft, warm day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a bonus that amaryllis is! I can't wait to see the flower. And this weather...just know I'm asking you a question with a four letter word in it. :-)
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, Bonny! You were missed. I hope you had a great visit with lots of light-hearted fun after all your recent frustrations. Come on, little hyacinth, you can do it! Your cactus is beautiful; I love that color. And what fun to have a surprise shoot on your amaryllis. Lots of floral welcomes for you. I hope you found it all incredibly cheerful and uplifting. Winter has to end sometime, right? It has been very cold and rainy here, but no snow. I am counting my blessings in that area, even though I really, really would like to see some warmer spring weather.
ReplyDeletePoor Hyacinth! OH my goodness. Good to see you back
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kathy! The snow melted quickly and the hyacinths survived, but I can hardly believe they have to endure another 6" snowfall on Saturday. I think we've all had just about enough of winter in April!
DeleteI'm amazed that your amaryllis continues to bloom!
ReplyDeleteI truly believe my cactus has the LAST bloom and then I spotted another one! So confused...
