Peace Be With You

Beginning today, The Healthy Knitter is hosting Project Peace for the second year, and who doesn't need more peace in their life? This year's pattern is a lovely shawl with a feather and fan lace edge; you can find the pattern here on Ravelry. You can also check Michelle's blog every day from today through the Winter Solstice for some peaceful reading and an opportunity to incorporate peaceful strategies into your life.

My own Peace Project is a little different this year. I've favorited and purchased the pattern, but I don't think I'm going to be knitting it (at least not now). I complained about how long the Peace Cowl took me last year, but I really do like it and wear it often. So I'm going to be knitting last year's pattern with some very special alpaca worsted that I got in Montana.

To promote more peace, I've decided that there are no rules, no judgement, and no deadlines for this project. It might be nice to finish it in time to wear this winter, but if not, I'm betting winter will also arrive again next year at this time. I hope that just feeling this lovely yarn flowing through my fingers is going to bring some peace every day, no matter whether I knit ten stitches, ten rows, or ten pattern repeats.

And if you need something to help the peace process, here is the Campari Spritz from Mary. Delicious and beautiful! Mary did warn that it might be a little more bitter than I was used to (and it was), so mine has an added glug of orange juice. I wanted to try this one because I think Mary may be posting two more cocktails tomorrow!

So cheers to the weekend, and cheers to peace, however you can achieve it.

  1. I love your peace knitting strategy, Bonny. I, too, purchased the pattern -- but have decided that I don't actually need another project right now. I will be participating by continuing to knit on the sweater I'm already in the midst of knitting! It is a very peaceful pattern to knit all on its own, and will work beautifully with the peace prompts/posts from The Healthy Knitter. I call that a WIN!

Your lovely yarn looks just lovely -- soft and cozy and peaceful even to just look at! Happy December! XO

  3. Oooooh, that yarn looks so soft and fuzzy, it will make a terrific no-rules-all-peaceful cowl.

  4. Great idea and beautiful yarn. I never ended up knitting the cowl last year and won't be knitting the shawl this year (too many other projects that I want to make - lol). I'm finding myself much more relaxed these days with my knitting - no rush or hurry, just enjoying the process. Things will get done when they get done. Have a wonderful weekend!

  7. Excellent idea - doing it your own way will be something that makes you happy.

P.S. My nephew-in-law will be excited to hear that you are using Campari, he is a sales rep for them. :-)

  8. I'll be peacefully knitting my sweater, as another project would make me crazy. Smith and I were talking last night about trying one of Mary's "Bonny" cocktails.

  9. Cheers Bonny! I'll be knitting on my sweater too and maybe last years Peace Cowl. I did get the pattern though because I love her thought process!

  10. I think your philosophy is perfect for a peace project. Nothing ruins a cherished hobby more than outside pressures, or internal pressures for that matter. I can't imagine knitting to a deadline. I know that yarn is wonderful to knit and wear as I am an alpaca addict myself. The only downside to alpaca is that it tends to grow, and grow. Happy December, Bonny!

    1. I've started projects with that yarn at least twice before, but they just didn't seem right. I think this might be the one! I have all kinds of great memories already wrapped up in this yarn, and it will be nice to knit some more peaceful ones. Thanks for the reminder about alpaca growing. I will need to pay attention to that, especially because I just guessed at the number of stitches to cast on. Wishing you a wonderful, peaceful weekend!

  11. I'll be checking out the links, I'm playing serious catch up this morning :) Fitting in gym and the babysitting is keeping me quite busy. I am trying to be joyful through december. Noticing what makes me happy deep down inside and spreading that joy.

  12. I too like your philosophy for a peace project. I also purchased the pattern because I wanted to support peace and the peace project. I'm not sure I'll knit it this month but I'll be peacefully knitting on a colored cowl because it makes me happy and the Contrail shawl because it is a peaceful knit. My three gift knits are finished so I can enjoy this month.

  13. I bought the pattern, too, but I don't think I'll start it right away, either. I do have some perfect yarn in the stash for the dk version, so I do think I'll get to it eventually.
