I usually take a photo of my knitting all crumpled up, but now that the gradient is finally showing up in this Hitchhiker, I wanted to try and show it. This idea came to me just as I was falling asleep last night, and the only thing that kept me from getting up to take photos was
that it was dark. Taking the photos took a little longer than I thought, since I had to clean to do it. My first attempts showed more grime
than gradient, so I actually dusted and scrubbed woodwork. That's how much I care about my readers! Forty-four points and still plenty
of yarn left ...
I've stopped working on Ryan's striped mitts because I asked him a question about the length a week and a half ago, and he still hasn't replied. So, Ryan, if you happen to be reading (not likely), call your mother!
The subtitle of Winterdance is The Fine Madness of Running the Iditarod, and it is a fine book. It surprised me to find that it's not available on Kindle or as an audio book, so I had to get the real book from the library. It's taking me a little longer to read it because I don't have a lot of uninterrupted time to sit and read, but it's a book worth taking your time with. Thanks, Kathryn!
What are you making and reading?
You cleaned your woodwork for us? Whoa. That's some serious blog dedication right there. The shawl is looking great and I love the stripes of those mitts!
ReplyDeleteSuch a dedicated blogger! Your hitchhiker is stunning, Bonny. I'm glad you have found a book that you are enjoying. Is this the immersive read you have been looking for? And HOORAY for Murphy!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Considering I had only scrubbed the woodwork once in 28 years, I thought it was time to do it again. :-) Winterdance is immersive reading, and I have a soft spot for Gary Paulsen. He's one of the few authors my youngest reluctant reader son would read when he was in elementary and middle school, so I'm grateful that he wrote so many good books. I read his whole Hatchet series with my son and we were both enthralled. Hooray for Murphy, hooray for Northam in VA, and I'm feeling a big sense of relief and hope with our borough council results, too!
DeleteI see the gradient, for reals this time. Lovely :) I hope he gets back to you soon so you can resume those lovely socks.
ReplyDeleteI love the photo esthetics in this post! As well as the note to your son! Your hitchhiker is stunning... and your cleaning! DIVINE!!
ReplyDeleteLove the photo taking back story. The gradient is really nice.
ReplyDeleteThe gradient is sooooo pretty! Having said that, I would probably have let the grime show, telling myself it would make the photo "gritty" ...
ReplyDeleteI love the gradient blues in your shawl, it is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteKnitting for the win again! The only time I consider cleaning an oft neglected spot is when it's needed for a photo shoot. I doubt anyone would have noticed or minded the grim and dust. The lighter blue looks like dawn slipping into the night sky! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI know the last time I seriously scrubbed any wood (anything???) was 2001 for my niece's shower. Man did that house shine! Loving the gradient, it's really pretty. And the gloves excellent colors!!
ReplyDeleteSo, wanna come take photos at my house? I'll feed you if you clean. :) Your Hitchhiker is going to be lovely. I haven't read Winterdance but I've enjoyed several other Paulsen books.
ReplyDeleteSo happy with my vest...I'm contemplating knitting another right away. Waiting for the car to get fixed. One car family makes this a pain today. I'm reading BLOGS
ReplyDeleteI send car repair sympathy. I spent a couple hours at the dealership this morning with my husband's car, and it was painful. They didn't listen to me at all, had no hot water for tea, and the car is still not fixed. Time to cast on another vest and make yourself happier!
DeleteHitchhiker is looking good, I've done that before taken a photo, loaded them up and realised it shows more than I wanted to show in the background.
ReplyDeleteSomehow the dust and dirt seemd to show more in the photo than in real life!
DeleteI have got to make a Hitchhiker!!!
ReplyDeleteThat hitchhiker is looking mighty fine.
ReplyDeleteThe gradient is beautiful (and so is all that woodwork. I'm tickled that you cleaned for us ;-) and I love the stripes on Ryan's mitts. When I saw you were reading about the Iditarod, I just smiled. Our hotel in Anchorage was right across the street from the symbolic starting point ... yeah, not interested!
ReplyDeleteMargene described the colors of your Hitchhiker perfectly: "dawn slipping into the night sky." I chuckled at your photo backstory. It sounds like my theory of cleaning.
