Good, Not So Good, Fun, Weird, Lovely, and Great

Some scenes from the weekend:

I had a good time visiting with the llamas while Christmas shopping at WoodsEdge Farm on Saturday morning.

Not so good was the rest of the day spent with John in the ER while they checked out the "cobwebs" and light flashes in his eye. The ophthalmologist thought his problem was most likely a small retinal tear that should heal on its own. He has a patch but won't let me take or share a pirate photo.

I had fun shooting my bow on Sunday afternoon. It felt really good to get outside in the fresh air and shoot multiple rounds.

I shot at my mother-in-law's house, and she lives next to a Christmas tree farm. I thought the pink, blue, and purple trees were just plain weird, but to each his own, I guess.

I was treated to a lovely sunset after I took a walk through the woods at my mil's. I much prefer the hues of pink and purple in the sky than on spray-painted trees.

And Mary's Spiced Rum Cocktail was just great! It was exactly what I needed at exactly the right time after getting home from the ER. The spiced simple syrup is every bit as good as Mary says, and I enjoyed some in my tea on Sunday. I haven't yet tried the Campari Spritz, but that is what I'm looking forward to tonight. So cheers to Mary and her sister Karen, cocktail geniuses; cheers to the week ahead, and cheers to the last few days of NaBloPoMo!

  1. I love the photos in this post - what a nice weekend! Except of course for the ER visit, but I'm glad it was nothing more serious. (P.S. Who doesn't want a legit pirate photo taken???)

  2. I'm so sorry you and John had to spend some of the weekend in the ER. That's NEVER fun. Here's to quick healing! (And, come on, John! Pirate photo for the WIN!!!!) So glad you had a chance to spend some good time outside this weekend -- shooting your bow and walking -- but those spray-painted Christmas trees???? Oh, my. . .

  3. Those colored trees are too odd. Sorry about the ER visit. Thank goodness Mary had a new beverage designed just for you!

  4. Well, you had a busy weekend! So much for resting up, Bonny. I am so sorry about John's eye. My John had a severe retinal tear that required surgery, so I understand the scary nature of even thinking about losing your vision. I hope his retina heals quickly. You are getting really good at shooting that bow! I am impressed, Katniss. I don't understand those Christmas trees either, but that's why they make chocolate and vanilla, right? Someone is having a psychedelic holiday, I guess. Nothing is better than a walk in the woods after the chaos of a holiday. Are llamas friendly in general?

    1. Some of my plans did get interrupted, but it all turned out well, so I honestly can't complain. I'm sorry to hear about your John's retinal tear and surgery; sight is so important, and it's scary to contemplate losing it. My John is mostly just insulted that the dr. told him that his problem is simply an age-related issue. I don't really know if llamas are friendly are not. They let me pet and feed them, but other than that I haven't had much interaction. I did learn from one of the guys working in the barn that they are "communal poopers" (they all like to go in the same area). That's not exactly what you asked, but may be your fun fact for Monday!

    2. IF they let you pet them and feed them, then I would rate them pretty friendly. Communal poopers! That phrase is hilarious, and yes, thank you for my fun Monday fact.

  5. I hope John heals quickly! A few years ago I had a similar scare, but it turned out to be a posterior vitreous tear, same symptoms as a retinal tear but more common & less serious. A day spent in the ER is never fun, but that drink looks like a nice way to relax after a stressful day.

  8. Sorry to hear about that time in the ER, I hope John is seeing clearly again really soon. Those colored trees are just weird.

  9. Weird trees!! I've not seen anything like that 'round here. I hope John's eye is better very soon! (Jun & Gin were each putting a sticker on one eye -- "pirate eye" -- and I didn't get any photos of them, either!)

  10. ER, eep! That sounds a bit scary! And, I am with you that the pinks and purples are much better in the skies than on green Christmas trees!

  11. I hope John's eye is healing - what a scare! and I'm totally confused about those pink and purple trees (I was going to ask how they do that, but I think I really don't want to know ;-) and CHEERS my friend - I'm so glad you enjoyed the cocktail!!

  12. Cheers to a week with no ER visits. The sunset is lovely. By the way, I love the little quilt that often shows up as background in your photos.

  13. A trip to the ER is never fun and I send healing thoughts for a quick recovery. John is a party pooper! Doesn't he know how important great blog fodder is to our world? I have never seen a purple Christmas tree, sad to say I have seen pink. The colors are much better suited to the morning sky, so beautiful, nice capture! Mary's cocktails sound so delicious. I'm actually going to make spiced syrup and try her cocktail recipes (in your honor).

  14. GLad the tear was caught early. My goodness those light flashes are the scariest things. THeycertainly get our attention and make us be seen fast. So that's a blessing. We pray to St. Lucy for eye issues . Her feast day is coming. Dec 9th??? Im not sure!
