Flora and Fauna

I'm still (always) trying to organize photos, but I'm also easily distracted. Here are a few that caught my attention from previous Augusts.

Now I'm going to get out and make sure I really see what's around me in August present. I hope you get a chance to do some of the same this weekend!

Oh, and I saw a recipe yesterday for zucchini and corn fritters that I'm going to try -- served with a sour cream/horseradish/chive sauce!

  8. Oh, a June bug! I used to catch those on my grandfather's farm and tie a string around them so they would fly in a circle. Was that cruel? Probably, but I always let them go. Have a great weekend!

    1. Around here we call them cicadas. They emerge from the ground, shed their skin (that brown husk) and then hatch into that big bug with huge eyes. They hang out in trees and make this quite loud buzzing sound to call prospective mates. The sound reminds me of a dentist's drill and kind of reverberates in my head. Can you tell they are not my favorites? :-)

  9. The hen and chick, as we called them when I was a kid, reminds me of my mother's yard. She had them everywhere, probably because they grew with little care. I've never seen a luna moth and I'm not sure they are even found around here. Hope your weekend was lovely!
