Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday.

There was unraveling this past week, but it was for a good purpose. After digging through my stash, I sat down and knit an experimental swatch with all the colors I was considering for a Match and Move.

The black and white photo looks like they all might have enough contrast, except the black and blue at the bottom. (I'm not sure what I was thinking with that combination!) Originally I was contemplating just two colors, but now I can see several options with three or four colors. There are too many choices, so I'll need to think about this for a while.

This was what my knitting chair looked like, so after I took photos, unraveled the swatch, carefully wound the three unwound skeins, and put them all away, I wound my Birthday Cake yarn and started a Hitchhiker. There has been some unraveling there also because I wasn't paying attention and split the yarn on several rows. I've found that it's best to enjoy only one vodka gimlet if I'm Hitchhiking! Unraveling fixed things and I'm back on track.

In the reading department, I finished Moon Over Soho and Bambi, and started Option B and Bambi's Children, all for Book Bingo. This has happened in previous years with Book Bingo; the time comes when I look at my card, see that I've finished several books, but also notice that I've got a lot more to go for a cover-all. I'll just keep reading (since that's what I would do anyway, even if I wasn't participating in Summer Book Bingo).

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. Sometimes I like swatching more than the actual knitting! :-) And I love your birthday-hitchhiker. It's going to look just like a sprinkled birthday cake when you're finished. (Yum.) I have Option B in my reading plans for this summer, too. But because it is a book I own (received as a gift), it keeps getting pushed down my "to-read" list in favor of library books (with pesty due dates). I'm reading Storm in a Teacup right now, which is interesting and fun . . . but I'm not quite in the mood for it. (But gotta get going -- because library book.) XO

  2. Swatching is an under appreciated activity! And, it is the perfect companion for audiobooks! Long live Book Bingo! :)

  4. Your Birthday Hitchhiker is so lovely, and will go with so many things!! I had not thought of adding a multi colored yarn to Match & Move - but that would be really pretty too. It's such fun to see what everyone is reading for bingo!

  7. That Hitchhiker is going to be so lovely in your birthday yarn! I agree on reading - it's what we'd be doing anyway but the extra planning involved adds a twist and makes it a challenge.

  8. Pink icing with sprinkles of blue! Looks just like my favorite birthday cake. Good choice in yarn and smart to stick with your tried and true Hitchhiker. My reading and knitting are slow, slow, slow. However, I hope to have two Bingos this summer.

  9. Your birthday cake hitchhiker is looking very nice! My reading is moving right along, but no bingos yet. And, I am finally making progress on my knitting-a shawl for my niece and the 1st clue of the TTL KAL.

  10. Well at least your cleaned up your knitting chair! I'm impressed. I am messy by nature, but I am still trying to break that habit. Your knitting looks lovely. I am awaiting yarn for a Deschain sweater (I need something quick), and reading Grief Cottage by Gail Godwin.

    1. I had to clean up my knitting chair as I was so afraid those skeins would get completely and permanently tangled if I didn't. I'm laughing because I never think of a sweater as quick, but it is a really beautiful one. I love how feather and fan is used in the pattern!

  11. LOL about the Hitchhiker - I'm so glad you're using your Birthday Cake for that! And look forward to hearing what you think about Option B. I listened to On Being (at least I think that was it) podcast with the authors and immediately added the book to my TBR.

  12. I love crocheting, making granny square lap blankets for people with infirmities & elderly & baby blankets.

But, as of last week it's now in the 100's to 110's (probably till Sept) & too hot to crochet, so my projects will have to wait till the weather cools off. I live in Phoenix, AZ.

You do beautiful work! God bless you!

    1. Thank you! It sounds like you do beautiful and wonderful work, but I also couldn't stand yarn on my lap in all that heat. I just checked Phoenix weather and it's 111 degrees; stay as cool as possible!

  14. Love your swatch - such pretty color combinations. I also love your knitting chair. It looks so big & comfy. And now I'm reminded of a show my kids used to watch 100 years ago, The Big Comfy Couch. :) Happy knitting!
