Unraveled Wednesday: 2/12/25

I'm joining Kat and the Unravelers today, with no more nonsense, just a Hitchhiker in progress.

Whenever I've felt overly anxious (while the plumber is trying to figure out why our bathroom sink won't drain, when I'm making phone calls to a Republican representative, or thinking about children being taken in an ICE raid at a school) I pick it up and knit a few rows. The yarn is soft and lovely enough that it helps take the edge off my anxiety and lends itself to some meditative prayers with each stitch.

I've finished four books this week, so I'll post all the reviews on Friday. There are a few average books and one stunning debut novel.

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. Oh, this so beautiful Bonny! That blue is so rich! It has been a.week. (and we still have miles to go to get to Friday... sigh.) I am, likewise calling... both (D) and (R) elected officials. Confession... I am having less success getting in contact with anyone with an (R) following their name. I am almost finished with There are Rivers in the Sky... what a delight this book has been!

  4. What would we do without the rhythmic charm of knitting? XO

  5. I love this HH! What's your plan for alternating the colors? I think that little white stripe is inspired. Keep knitting and meditating, Bonny. I can't believe it's only been 3 weeks! My house saga continues, but it should be done by the first of March. I asked for a small delay in order to paint a couple of rooms before they strip the floors. New shades have been ordered, and I only have John's office left to pack. I started yesterday, and I had to take several breaks to cry, but I am better than I was a few months ago. And I put in an application to adopt a dog. In fact, I have put in a couple before this, but I didn't get the dogs. I think they think I am too old! I decided that I would be much healthier if I had something to love, and I do love a small dog to cuddle. Today I go to finalize my new will. There is way too much going on here, but I think it has been good for me to keep busy. I am looking forward to sitting in a chair next month, cuddling a dog, and reading and knitting. I am getting very tired. LOL

  6. Such a gorgeous Hitchhiker Bonny! I'm glad it is bringing you some peace. I've been thinking of signing up for a virtual MDK class with Suzan Colon on meditation and knitting. Since my BP is rising, I think it might be a good idea. Looking forward to your book reviews another day.

  8. Given when you're adding rows, I predict this might be the quickest HH you've ever knit! I do love the combo of the blue (and black?) and white!

    1. Thanks, Debbie! I was glad that I could take a photo where it showed up fairly well. We had a little sun instead of gray, snowy skies.

  10. I love how you are using these yarns together. What a beautiful piece you are making. Knitting and stitching do help to take the stress down a notch.

  11. Your latest Hitchhiker is really speaking to me. The curve of it in those colors is very appealing.
I can't even with the news right now. I live in the outskirts of DC and almost everyone I know are government workers who are all being told they are no longer needed. Lives torn apart. It's cruel but I suppose cruelty is the point.

    1. I also love the curve and that's not something i noticed until I laid it out on the ground. Cruelty should never be the point imho.

  12. Blue and white is such a classic combo, I love the way this new Hitchhiker is coming along. My rage and despair is running rampant right now!
