Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday, with a hat in progress and a Hitchhiker on the needles. The hat is just a boring eight inches of ribbing as of now (but I do like the moss it's on). I knit Justin a Two by Two hat for Christmas and it has interesting decreases but they're not very prominent in the camouflage yarn I used. This is a repeat of that pattern so I can see the decreases. It may be for me or it may go in the Christmas box if nobody claims it.

The Hitchhiker is from a big 600 yd. skein of Dream in Color Smooshy that was a gift from Ryan. It looks sort of Valentine-y to me, so that's my self-imposed deadline for finishing it.

I'm off to a good start with reading and finished three great books this week. Miss Benson's Beetle and All the Acorns on the Forest Floor both earned four stars from me, and I gave The Reason You're Alive 4.5 stars and rounded up to 5. (Thanks, Patty!) If you're ever interested in reading my Goodreads reviews, you can just click on the book title in the Read section of the right-hand sidebar and you'll be whisked right to my well-reasoned thoughts and sagacious opinions. (I am kidding! They are just my ordinary, average thoughts.)

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. Still reading The Reason You're Alive, started The Stars are Fire (very good so far), and a lot more on my wait list have become available, so it will mostly be reading until I get caught up. I love reading your reviews. I feel I have a very good view of the book when I read one of them. I still have hopes for finding a bit of time to knit, but we shall see. Love that hat and the HH!

  3. Okay, I am jealous that my son does not share the same talent as Ryan does for picking beautiful skeins of yarn!! That is going to make one gorgeous Hitchhiker! I will be here cheering you on to meet your V-Day deadline!! (I am off to find that Two by Two hat pattern! I think that is the perfect match for the hat in my "mind's eye"!!)

  4. I have to disagree with you on your evaluation of your book reviews -- I find them to be excellent, and they have served me very well in finding good books to read! I am reading Monogamy right now thanks to your review (which I'm finding I very much agree with), and I just bookmarked The Reason You're Alive. Your Hitchhiker is knitting up beautifully; I am interested to see just how big it gets with that much yardage.

  5. It's a PERFECT Valentine hitchhiker! I'm confident you'll get it finished in time to wear it by February 14. (And Ryan does have excellent taste.) I always enjoy reading your book reviews on Goodreads, Bonny. Sagacious, indeed. XO

  6. Count me as another who always enjoys your book reviews Bonny! I looked for Miss Benson's Beetle and The Reason You're Alive at my library...but they don't have either (I have recommended!). Looks like Ryan scored another beautiful yarn for you Bonny - Perfect for Valentine's Day. Between being a Hitchhiker and being yarn that Ryan chose, I'm sure this is pure comfort knitting - enjoy!!

  9. Well, I am knitting socks. :) The first in awhile. My hands like sock work. Light yarn, light tiny wooden needles. Reading, is really more listening. I want to knit as I listen or watch a podcast. I really enjoyed last nights viewing I chose of Kristi Glass and Zucker the photographer and author . I love seeing people get very very excited about yarn and our crafts!

  10. I love the cheerful bright pinks. Dream in Color is a yarn I would like to knit up into a project. The colors are so pretty. Both the hat and the hitchhiker will be just the thing for a February day. I am reading The Guest Book for book group. It's an interesting story about race and class. I was quite taken with most of it but do think the end is dragging a little or maybe I just want to know the end of the story. I predict a good discussion.
