Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday, with a ready-to-bind-off Hitchhiker.

The colors aren't exactly right, but I'll take better photos after I've bound it off, given it a good soaking, and blocked it. I thought I might have it completed by now, but it turns out I ended up holding it more while I was watching election returns than actually knitting. That's okay, it provided just the comfort I needed while it was sitting on my lap.

That little ball of yarn is what I have let to bind off with. I'm fairly confident that I've got enough, but I'll figure something out if it turns out otherwise.

In another bit of exciting news, that is a glow-in-the-dark stitch marker from The Lemonade Shop. You'll have to trust me that it does indeed glow in the dark because a photo proved impossible. I also got some rainbow and gold and silver glitter hearts and they all make me very happy.

I did finally complete The Queen's Gambit and found the book as wonderful as the Netflix series. I also finished listening to Anxious People. This one was a little difficult for me to get into (maybe I was a bit sidetracked by election returns?) but once I did, I was rewarded with Fredrik Backman's usual combination of poignancy and humor. I think this might have been my favorite of all of his books. I'm not sure what I'll read next; it depends on what is ready for checkout in my Overdrive queue.

What are you making and reading this week?

  2. Your knitting projects are always lovely. Wish I could knit. That is a skill I never mastered. I have been wanting to read Anxious People. I really enjoyed, A Man Called Ove. Hope you have a great Wednesday!

  3. It's probably just as well that you mostly held your Hitchhiker; I suspect if you'd actually knit on it, your tension might have been REALLY tight! I will keep my fingers crossed that your little ball of yarn is plenty to bind off and weave in the end.

I'm glad to hear The Queen's Gambit (book and series) were good! My husband and I are planning to start watching soon (I just want to finish Schitt's Creek first, and I have two episodes left to watch).

    1. Oh, and I forgot to mention that if you enjoy Fredrik Backman, I really liked Bear Town and its sequel, Us Against You (I think that's right?). They're a bit more serious than some of his other books but very well written.

  4. That shawl and leaf picture is really lovely! I finished a sweater for myself over the weekend and I am closing in on finishing a baby sweater. I have Anxious People on hold and have hear good things about it.

  5. My knitting brings me the same sort of comfort when it's just in my lap. Your hitchhiker is gorgeous. I am knitting a baby sleep sack for my neighbor, she is due in 2 weeks. And I'm reading The House in the Cerulean Sea and I love it.

  6. Such a vibrant, pretty Hitchhiker Bonny! I'm betting (and hoping) you have sufficient yarn to bind off. I had not heard that Backman has a new book out. I'm off to look at my library!

  7. Beautiful Hitchhiker, Bonny. Of course you have enough yarn to bind off! Think positive thoughts. I just finished Tana French's The Searcher, and I really enjoyed it. I could not get into the Witch Elm at all, but I liked this one. Hope you have a lovely Wednesday.

  9. I am patiently waiting for The Queen's Gambit to arrive at my local library. Yes, I am waiting for a physical book! :)

Beautiful knitting! That might be my favorite Hitchhiker... the colors are so perfect!

  10. We'll finish The Queen's Gambit this evening and for once, I'll read the book after I watch the TV show. I think glow-in-the-dark stitch markers are a brilliant idea.

  11. I'm into glow in the dark anything. Well, mostly religious things that glow in the dark. Seriously.

I love your stitch marker. Good Book review.

I am reading a book with Fireman. It is a book of tales about a boy who is from Colombia. We are learning and relearning Spanish.

    I am knitting a shawl.

  12. Another glorious hitchhiker. Thanks for the tip on the stitch marker. Now and then it is fun to treat yourself to a little knitting jewelry. They would also make a great gift for another knitter like my sister. I'm knitting the same socks and poncho but I did cast on some mittens and am now working on a hat to go with them. They are out of a speckled yarn for my granddaughter.

  13. You must know how I feel about this Hitchhiker! Of course, a tried and true friend, like the Hitchhiker pattern, the gorgeous yarn that has already brought you hours of company, would be the perfect comfort during stressful times. xo

  14. Love that Hitchhiker. It is in my favorite colors?!
I just started watching The Queen's Gambit, and it is so good.
I tried listening to Anxious People, and I just could not get into it.

    1. Thank you! I think this Hitchhiker might be one of my favorites, but I say that about almost every one I finish. I really loved The Queen's Gambit also and will probably re-watch it (after I watch Season 4 of The Crown).

  15. I finally drank the Hitchhiker Kool-Aid. Thinking about picking up the afghan again was just too dreary to contemplate, and I came upon a couple skeins of fingering weight in the stash that are too pretty to resist. They will become a Hitchhiker!
