Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday with what I hope is the penultimate post about this particular Hitchhiker. I had hoped to have it finished by now after the baby knitting, but mistakes were made, unraveled, more mistakes made, and unraveled, so progress has been slow. Three more teeth and it will be done.

It's a bit bunched up on the needles and not stretched out to its full length, but I'm quite happy with it so far. Sometimes I just have to stop and look at all the lovely bright colors.

I finished Lady in the Lake (a pleasant three-star read for me), am still listening to The Door (compelling, but hard to explain why), and started Conversations With RBG. The last one is a real book that I got from the Elkton library in what felt like some sort of covert mission. I had to place a hold, go to the library when it was ready, call the library staff when I arrived and they would bring the book out. UNDER NO CONDITIONS WAS I TO GET OUT OF MY CAR AND PICK UP THE BOOK UNTIL THE STAFF MEMBER WAS BACK INSIDE THE LIBRARY. That was the text I got from them in response to my phone call, in all caps so I knew they meant business!

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. Your Hitchhiker looks lovely! You're almost there!! I love your story about picking up the library book and I LOVE how careful so many people continue to be despite everything going on.

Thanks to your rave reviews, I read Hamnet and loved it! Thank you for recommending it :)

    1. Thanks, Katie! A part of me will be sad to see this Hitchhiker completed because it's provided me with a lot of comfort knitting. I bigger part of me wants it done so I can wear it! I'm so glad you enjoyed Hamnet!

  2. Oh, I can relate to that text from the library! If you knew the conversations we have about patrons who just won't follow the rules right now . . . well, it would explain what that was sent in all caps. hahahaha. That said, we are open 2 days/week for inside browsing and offer curbside pick up 2 days/week as well.

  3. Lovely Hitchhiker, Bonny! I don't usually see you knit those colors. So, I have to ask. Where did they leave the book for you to pick up? All the libraries here are open, but you must have your temp taken at the door (pretty useless) and wear a mask. They do curbside pickup as well. I am in between books, and still making recommendations to my library to buy some books, but so far, they are ignoring me --ha ha ha.

  4. I love this Hitchhiker so much! The colors make me smile whenever I see it.

I had to laugh at the library's instructions. What would they have done if you had gotten out of the car too early? Would they have taken back the book? Put you on the naughty list?

  5. Beautiful Hitchhiker Bonny! That will cheer you during the winter when you wear it.

Our local library offers curbside pick up. You call when you are in their parking lot. They bring your book (or books) out in a plastic (clear) bag and place it/them on a table. You are standing there with a mask on, but they will not hand you the bag! You have to let them place it on the table, then you can pick up the bag.

  9. What a glorious hitchhiker. I would also be stopping to look at all the colors. That will brighten many a winter day. Sounds like he library has had a few patrons who don't follow rules. I'm glad you got the book, covert mission or not.

  10. I loved, loved, loved Conversations with RBG (I listened to the author read it to me... so excellent and the RBG outtakes, sigh!)

  11. Love those HH colors ... and the story about your library pickup :-) We actually CALL (not text) from our cars and it's so nice to speak to a librarian! I've been managing about weekly pickups, and they are always a delight.

  12. Oh I will have to listen to Conversations with RBG. Your shawl is going to be worth all the shenanigans it played on you!

  14. The hitchhiker is a stunner, Bonny! And, yeah. The Door is incredibly compelling . . . but it seems like it shouldn't be? (I credit the author.) XO

  15. The Hitchhiker is lovely! I still think about The Door and the question, What was the right thing to do? Is there a way to ever make the "right" choice? I love it! (I just finished Abigail which was published in English just this year.) I think you would love it, Bonny!)
