Last weekend we had temperatures in the mid-60s, and since that doesn't happen very often in January, I wanted to sit on the porch and knit. My current Hitchhiker didn't quite fit the bill, so I got out a Sockhead Cowl that had been
I spent an enjoyable few hours on the porch, rocking and knitting in the glider. Temperatures are now more seasonable with the chance for some snow later this week, so there is more winter to be had here. I've still got many inches of stockinette and then many more inches of ribbing to knit, but the round-and-round knitting is meditative. I hope to put my word into action and focus enough to finish this year and count it as a 2020 FO.
In reading, I finished Dante's Inferno and found it so much more readable, beautiful, and optimistic than I had expected. I've been listening to Indistractable and The Murmur of Bees and reading Fever on my Kindle. To be honest, I'm loving the beautiful, lyrical, and engaging language of Bees and it's all I can do not to abandon the other books and listen to it non-stop. But I'm also trying to focus on books I need to read so I'll make myself finish them before returning to Siminopio's story. |
What are you making and reading this week?
============
Ryan is here for a visit, so I'm going to be taking a short break to spend some time with him. See you later (maybe with a new project because he brought me yarn!)
We had that warm weather, too, and I tried to sit outside ot knit but it was just too darn windy for me. You're tempting me with that Sockhead Cowl pattern. I finished Fever last night and started Ruth Ware's The Turn of the Key. I think that one is going to be a fast read since it's a thriller.
ReplyDeleteI'm also reading The Murmur of Bees, but to be honest, I'm having a hard time getting into it (even though I'm already about 100 pages in). Everyone who's read it seems to love it, so I'm going to stick with it, but I'm wondering a bit what I'm missing.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful visit with Ryan!
This warm weather is troubling - my snowdrops have all popped out of the ground and will probably bloom today. My forsythia have a decidedly yellow tinge and my chives have sprung to life.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your visit with Ryan! (And, how lovely that he brought you a yarny gift!)
Oh enjoy your Ryan visit and I can't wait to see what he brought you yarn-wise (that guy has such excellent taste in yarn!!). I'm knitting the headband (finally worked out a [very] simple pattern that is working) and the Canary Blanket. need to cast on socks and thanks for the reminder of the sockhead cowl - that's a great (as you say) meditative knit. Reading (and enjoying) Fever!
ReplyDeleteI am finishing up Murmer of Bees this week. Love this story! Enjoy your visit
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw you at the airport yesterday (well . . . your IG photo!), I was hoping it might be Ryan. XO Enjoy your time together. (And . . . be sure to keep some kleenex nearby when you reach the last bits of Murmur of Bees. Just sayin.)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your visit Bonny! :-) Off to check out Murmur of Bees!
ReplyDeleteour weather people cannot decide what will happen this weekend, today though is glorious! love your knit (a great pattern!) and I'm imagining you on a swing/glider and it's a wonderful sight. We put our swing away for the winter so I was unable to do that.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! Kids bearing yarn!! Have a great visit, Bonny!
ReplyDeleteHooray for a visiting Ryan, and _yarn_. That boy knows his mama. I just finished This Tender Land, which I greatly enjoyed. Started Dutch House at bedtime last night. Still not knitting today. I am cleaning. I don't enjoy cleaning, but it has to be done, so I am doing it. Enjoy your visit and your blogging break.
ReplyDeleteI read a few pages of Fever. Im more inclined to listen to a podcast lately. I love the idea of that mosquito which seems so innocent in the first paragraphs is likely a vector? I don't know much about typhoid!
ReplyDeleteWe're reading Fever by Mary Beth Keane (about typhoid), but I think you may have read a few pages of Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson (about yellow fever). Mosquitoes don't really figure into typhoid fever!
DeleteWhat a wonderful son, that Ryan is, bringing home yarn for Mom. You raised that boy right! Your sockhead cowl sounds like a perfect knit for me. I have debated about starting another pair of socks, but not feeling very committed to the idea, but a cowl, oh yeah!
ReplyDeleteKnitting the Sockhead cowl is a bit of a slog, but it may be the perfect winter accessory!
DeleteI am so glad you've picked up that lovely blue WIP again ... for you! So happy you have Ryan for a visit. ENJOY!! (and I LOVE that he brought you yarn!!)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy, enjoy your visit with Ryan. There is nothing better than having one of the grown children come home for a visit. I love the blue sockhead cowl so I am cheering for its finish.
ReplyDeleteKym said what I was going to say--I hoped your airport photo meant a visit from Ryan. And, YES with the tissues at the end of Bees. I loved that story! Admittedly, I would have given up on Fever if not for the book group.
