Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday.

So this happened. This particularly unsatisfying photo of a barely-cast-on Sockhead Cowl illustrates exactly why I need one. It's dark, cloudy, and 26 degrees outside, bad for photographs and people who want to be outside taking a walk. I'm still not done with my fingerless mitts, but I told myself that I would just cast on, admire the lovely color and then put it away and finish the mitts. Now all I have to do is resist the lure of the cowl until I really do finish the mitts. Lots of knitting is on the agenda for today.

I am excited about a book I just started, A Place in the Woods. I found it while browsing Amazon for a gift book for someone else. I originally found the sequel, The Gift of the Deerand really wanted to read that one, but decided I should start with the first one first. I searched for it at five libraries and when there were no digital or paper copies to be found, I thought that maybe John wanted to get them for me as a Christmas gift. I'm lucky that he knows exactly what I wanted!

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. Wishing you hours and hours of knitting time today! And the Helen Hoover books look excellent - I think they would be ones that Fletch and I would enjoy reading after dinner. Perhaps a Valentine's Day gift??? Thanks for mentioning them.

  2. That photo is dark, but I have a vivid memory of that shade of blue, so I can imagine it. You resisted for quite a while, Bonny. I hope you have so much knitting time that you finish those mitts so you can pick up your precious.

  3. Small press books are often hidden little gems. I look forward to hearing about your experience and will add them to my TBR, too. I love that deep blue shade and hope you're able to get back to it soon. It something you'll wear and wear!

    1. I had lots of knitting planned, but work has interfered. :-( Have fun buying yarn, and reading blogs may not be terribly exciting, but I'm thankful that you are reading!

  6. You will be busy! I've been very monogamous and still haven't been very productive! Just knitting on Dan's socks. Will move to sock #2 tonight. Reading...Jane E., Widows of Malabar and one other. Also not getting much done! :-)

Best of luck finishing those mitts. I am glad you cast on the cowl. It is good to have the next project waiting.

  11. OH! a sockhead cowl? might be something I need to investigate. I made a ton of sockhead hats back in the day and they are all owned by my son.

  12. I have wanted to read A Place in the Woods for years! Right now I'm reading Michael Pollen's new book, How to Change Your Mind. I've been slowly knitting a shawl and a hat.

    1. I had never heard of A Place In the Woods before I randomly stumbled upon it, but I've read about 50 pages and it's wonderful! I thought How to Change Your Mind was really intriguing. Pollan seemed fairly skeptical about psychedelics, but seemed to find that there might be many applications for the drugs. I thought it was a really interesting book!
