Daphne Does It Again

During this past week, the blossoms on Daphne's first flower stalk faded, but there were four buds waiting to burst into bloom on the second stalk. They did, and they are glorious.

Her first bunch of flowers provided me with joy and wonder every day, and these are doing the same.

John wondered why I was taking more photos of Daphne than I ever took of our kids (not true!) but when I tried to explain that I just wanted to show her blossoms, markings, color, and beauty in the best possible light, he shook his head and walked away. I'm not bothered by this at all as I don't take criticism of my flower photos from someone who has plenty of pictures of his boring old trucks and motorcycles.

I'm afraid this might be her last blaze of glory for this year, so I'll admit I spent lots of time trying to capture just how beautiful she really is. It's never quite possible with a photograph, but I'll always remember Daphne, the perfect amaryllis at the perfect time. Thank you, Kym, for one of the most wonderful gifts I've been given!

  2. Daphne has been a gift that keeps on giving! Her color and flowers have certainly put on a show for you. My beautiful amaryllis is shooting up leaves and I hope to keep her going and growing so she'll show off again in the fall. I hope you have luck with Daphne, too!

  5. What a star!!!

Hoping you will "winter" her over (in the summer). My Dad used to do that all the time - once everything dies back he would stick the pot in a closet and bring it out and start watering it in the Fall.

  7. You have allowed all of us to enjoy Daphne, and I have enjoyed her very much. I learned that there were burgundy colored versions of Amaryllis, which I did not know before I met Daphne. It's amazing how much a small thing like a colorful plant can impact our lives, particularly in the depths of winter. Now on to spring!

    1. This lovely amaryllis has really given me a new view and something to look forward to for several months now, and that has been a wonderful thing! I'm glad you also enjoyed her and agree with your call to spring (after our 12-16" of snow tomorrow)!

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed Daphne, and I'm envious of your day lily buds. My daffodils are up a few inches but I'm afraid they're going to be crushed by all the heavy, wet snow we're getting tomorrow. :-(
