Bountiful Weekend

If you have a garden in August, you know that means there is plenty to do. On Saturday I picked tomatoes, zucchini, beans, and cucumbers. After that I shredded and baked,

I baked eight loaves of zucchini bread, but three were given away quickly.

blanched and froze,

peeled and sliced,

and made a big pan of ziti. This has nothing to do with the garden, but it was a special request. :-)

Working in the garden and kitchen much of Saturday meant that I felt free to take the day off on Sunday. I considered this partial Hitchhiker and it seemed sort of blah, so I thought of a way to make it better,

so I unraveled,

and re-knit while re-watching Endeavour. The yo, k2tog rows won't really show up until it's done and blocked, but I do like much better.

Hope your weekend was also bountiful and full of all manner of good things. Happy Eclipse!

  2. Oh wow! That's a ton of unraveling, but the new Hitchhiker will be beautiful! We are bringing in tomatoes faster than we can eat them. I need to make gazpacho or something! Our neighbor gave us two spaghetti squash. I need to find a recipe for them as well.

  3. Sounds like you had a good weekend! I'm hoping the weather holds out for the eclipse...it's hazy right now and thunderstorms are forecast for eclipse time.

  4. Oh yeah!! I like that better already. I've a hankering for zucchini bread all of a sudden. ;)
Happy Eclipse! It's mostly cloudy here, so I'll be watching NASA coverage!

  6. Well, Little Red Hen, keep up the good work! You will enjoy your bounty when the rest of us are wondering when the fresh produce will come back. I'm glad to hear that you are feeling more positive. Staying out of the endless news loop is always good unless something really important is happening. I am thinking how much I would love some baked ziti and zucchini bread for supper! Your hitchhiker is much improved by the texture that you have added, good thinking.

  10. You are a busy gardener! Harvest time is really . . . busy. But it will be so worth it later in the year, when you're using up the fruits of your labor. (And you'll be able to taste the summer when you need it most, too.) Ripping can be so satisfying, non? (And I always LOVE the kinky yarn when it's first unraveled. . .)

  11. You know how to handle bounteous amounts of garden goodness! I give away as much my neighbors will take. I'm going to try to blanch beans. (Good idea!) Harvest time is a great time to share. Your pattern change is a good one. I approve! ;-)
