Both Sides

My recent travels have taken me to Pennsylvania, which means that I need to cross the Delaware River when I leave New Jersey. There are several bridges I can choose from, but habit usually finds me traveling north in New Jersey, crossing the Milford bridge, but returning home on the Pennsylvania side across the Frenchtown bridge. I switched things around this week, and it really made me take a good look at both sides.

Across the Uhlerstown - Frenchtown bridge to Pennsylvania:

Back across the the Upper Black Eddy - Milford Bridge to New Jersey:

Milford Mill Established 1798 Rebuilt 1849

I've driven this route literally hundreds of times over more than 40 years, but on this trip I'm glad I took the time to notice things. It's good to really see both sides.

  4. I really enjoyed seeing these pictures. My Dad's family lived in the tri-states area on the Delaware (Matamoras, PA-Port Jervis, NY) and I grew up not very far from there. The upper Delaware is beautiful and remind me of home.

  6. Great pictures! I love that area of the Delaware River. The ice on the rocks - love (though I am ready for winter to be gone...).

  10. It's always great to see the same old things with new eyes. When I do this, I always notice things that I have never noticed before. And, it is good for your brain to think in a new way!

    1. Thank you! You are right about seeing with new eyes, and I was glad I had some extra time to spend taking a good look and seeing so much that was new to me. It was a cold day with flurries and strong winds, but I had a great time!

  11. I am reminded of one of the strategies that I used when I quit smoking. The drive home after work was always a trigger, and I'd read that changing up the regular route would help to occupy/distract the mind as I navigated through less familiar territory. And apparently it worked, as I'm closing in on 12 years this month!

  12. I love bridges with personality! The pictures are great! I always drive into work one way and back home another. Crazy hurry in...easy relax out. That's a great part of the world.
