I’m happy to join Kat and the Unravelers today with (you guessed it) a kitchen towel. Last week I received a (good-natured) demand to knit a little faster. Becky said, "Your third color of yarn is my favorite, so get cracking!" How could I resist a challenge like that?
I tried, Becky, I really did, but I'm afraid I came up short. I still have 30 rows left before I cast off, and I know that if I had tried to stay up late to finish, mistakes would have been made. So all I can do is show my almost-completed second towel, with a promise to cast on with your favorite color very soon. Maybe even this afternoon. I hope to make good progress on it this coming week as it's blazingly hot again, so all I want to do is sit in an air-conditioned room and knit with with cotton yarn.
Since I've only shown you photos of kitchen towels for several weeks, I thought I'd include a bonus picture this week. See that red tub in the background behind the towel? That's water for the deer since it's been so hot. They drink it, but usually at 2:30 am when it's tough to get a picture. But for some reason, a couple of them visited during the day over the weekend. The fawns are cuter, but these guys are impressive in their own antlered ways.

You are kind to leave water out for the deer, and I hope they reward your kindness by not munching on plants you'd rather they leave alone. I hope you're able to get through the last 30 rows of this dishtowel soon because I can't remember what color is next!
ReplyDeleteLove the dishtowel, Bonny. It's a perfect knit for these hot summer days . . . as long as you have a cool spot inside to work on it! Like you, I'm making sure I have fresh water throughout my garden for all the "woodland creatures" who share my space. I don't leave water for the neighborhood deer - because they have access to an open lake across the street - but I make sure to leave water in multiples "containers" for everyone else.
ReplyDeleteLovely knitting, Bonny! (I like that green very much!) I have water out for everyone here as well... the rabbits and deer are regular visitors as are the birds! This weather is challenging for man and beast! (and those bucks are most impressive!)
ReplyDeleteWell, it seems to me that you did get cracking, Bonny! That's a lot of knitting since I told you that, and yes, it was in good fun. I like this green one, but I am partial to teal. Do people in your neck of the woods use that phrase? It has been insufferably hot this summer, and I am glad you have a cool room to knit in these days. I don't think I could knit in this weather. It's enough that I take a 2-3 mile walk every day with Wink in this heat. Of course, we begin at 5:30, but it is still hot and steamy. I, too, have been keeping the wildlife watered in my back yard. I know if deer could draw, you would have a cat drawn on your curb for being such a good-hearted woman.
ReplyDeleteThat towel has a had a real growth spurt in the past week! I've been putting out water for our black vulture friends. They come and drink several times a day. They didn't like me spritzing them down though. They've been panting and sitting with their wings spread so I thought they might like a little shower. Apparently not.

I love that bright green dish towel. It's a welcome bright spot in all the dismal news. I'm sure the deer are grateful for water. I meant to scrub out the birdbath last night and refill it so your post reminds me to get that done.
ReplyDeleteI have water out for my birds in the back yard, the deer walk through it but I do not know if they drink from it or not. Gorgeous green yarn.
