I started stitching the raccoon but it turned out I was mistakenly reading the badger chart. What you see above is me removing the badger stitches, being really careful not to clip any brown hat stitches.
But I've been using the time that I'm not duplicate stitching to knit on the Dream Hitchhiker. We've had quite a few cool days, so I welcome the warmth of it on my lap. It looks much the same, just a lot more teeth. I've got 54 teeth which is probably plenty. I've been debating how I want to finish it - bind off after the yo row, do a couple more plain garter stitch rows, or maybe even do those plain garter stitch rows in another color. I've got some of the same yarn in a light gray, but I can't decide if that would look weird or not. If you have any thoughts about the finish, I'd love to hear them.
I'm reading an ARC, rereading Good People, and relistening to The Things We Never Say but haven't finished anything, so no book reviews this week.
What are you making and reading this first Wednesday in May?

I am impressed with your duplicate stitching! I wish mine was as good as yours. Happy crafting day!
ReplyDeleteI hope the oopsies you've had on this hat are the last of them! And I certainly hope the recipient fully appreciates the intricate work you're putting in on this project. I'm sure you'll settle on an appropriate finish for your dream Hitchhiker -- can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteI am also very impressed with your gorgeous duplicate stitching! Beautiful, Bonny! That is going to be a masterpiece! I am just beginning John of John and am settling in nicely. (and I just got The Things We Never Say!)
ReplyDeleteThat hat is going to be fabulous Bonny! (I would have kept on with the badger and done the raccoon later).
ReplyDeleteThose darn charts! Your duplicate stitching is very nice, Bonny, firm but not too tight, Goldilocks style. It's looking very good. Reading mostly light things lately. I am finding that a good "escape book" is useful these days in my adjustment to being alone again. Still renovating the house for stepson, so I do have a project to focus on. It's been cold here as well. That is very unusual for spring in the south! I say do what you wish with your knitting, but since it is all one color, have you considered adding some yo rows for an lacy look finish? Just a thought. Happy Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteI bow down to your duplicate stitch skills, Bonny! The hat looks FABULOUS. It's going to be EPIC!
ReplyDeleteI tried duplicate stitch once and it was an epic fail. I am impressed by your mad skillz!
ReplyDeleteThat little deer looks so cute, even without features & outlines! I think if you were to add another color to your Hitchhiker, it should be substantial -- or at least more than a few rows (but that's just me & who knows?).
ReplyDeleteI'd like to know who it was that ever figured out duplicate stitch in the first place. It still boggles my mind that anyone can make it look as good as what you've done so far.
ReplyDeleteIt might have been someone like me who is really bad at fair isle and intarsia. I'm hoping that blocking when it's all done evens out the hat stitches and the duplicate stitching somewhat.
DeleteOh boy. I would also be counting and counting again to make sure I was duplicate stitching as per pattern. I don't know that I have an opinion on the hitchhiker. It sounds as if you have plenty of yarn so you can do whatever suits you best. Follow that dream.
