We're really just starting tomato season here in central NJ, and I'm usually picking the last of them sometime in September. I'm going to have to try your sandwich, as soon as I have some more ripe tomatoes. Yours make me want more.
This year I was in charge of buying the plants from the local farmer's co-op, I just selected what the fellow in front of me got (really, I don't know tomatoes) and what resulted was a beautiful golden yellow variety, and some smaller irregular looking Roma types -- they both are/were delicious, one other plant has 2 green ones and no more! But I sorely miss red ones.
My favorite tomato sandwich is a grilled cheese with plenty of tomato slices and basil. Mmmm-mmm.
