I couldn't seem to put together a cohesive post this morning, so today you get random bits from the weekend.
That photo above is from my nephew and his wife, showing that their son likes the socks I knit. (I figured you can't go wrong with a laughing baby picture.) I did offer to knit him a sweater because I think babies should be layered in wool in the wintertime (especially if they live in upstate NY).
We're back in MD this week, and it's all laundry all the time. I haven't been here for three weeks and John hasn't been down in two weeks. Needless to say, he did not do laundry or clean at all when he was here by himself. I'm wondering if the sheets will dry at all if I hang them out? At forty degrees but sunny, it's a possibility there might be some drying.
Justin has run into a glitch with his job. It's a long story, but it comes down to the fact that they want him to take a covid test and delay his start date. I didn't think this would be a problem, but it took three hours of searching last night before I lucked into an appointment at a CVS about half an hour away. Nobody wants to test people who are asymptomatic because tests are still very limited (in NJ anyway). How are we going to control this without adequate testing? I know I'm not the first person to ask that question, and I surely won't be the last.
I feel more at home in NJ than in MD, so I decided I needed to do something fun in MD to make it feel homier. My answer? Bake doughnuts! I don't know how I arrived at this, but my pan should be delivered today. There may be a doughnut post later this week.
Luckily the pan I ordered only bakes six doughnuts because I also told Kym I would give yoga a try. I'm not a "yoga person", I'm not very flexible, and the last time I did yoga was in 7th grade when our gym teacher from India made us all start class with Salute to the Sun.
Yoga, meditation, laundry, doughnuts - I'll barely have time to read or knit! I did finish two pretty good books yesterday, so I also need to write my Goodreads reviews and keep reading.
I'll leave you with another baby picture. It's clear he likes his socks much better than that sweater. Hope your Monday, your week, and your year are off to a good start!
Yoga, meditation, and donuts does sound like a great plan
ReplyDeletebeautiful baby! I think here you need a script for hospital testing and only drug stores or set up pop up sites (usually in highly populated areas) by the state are script free and anyone can come. So it's about the same?
ReplyDeleteYour nephew is a real cutie pie! I've tried yoga classes in the past and always gave up, frustrated that I'm pretty inflexible and couldn't keep up with the classes. I've tried a few of Adriene's classes and her modifications work for me, so I began her 30 day program today...I hope I can stick with it!
ReplyDeleteHave fun making donuts!
I have high hopes (or at least moderate ones) for giving yoga a real try since I can do it here at home with Adriene and don't have to feel embarrassed in a yoga studio. Modifications also sound good to me. You can do it!
DeleteHe's pretty cute! Wondering if you can get a doctors order for the test? I did that after Christmas as I was exposed (before) and was able to get 24 hour results by going to the testing tent at the local hospital. (Negative!) I can't wait to hear all about your baking and yoga adventures!
ReplyDeleteNo, you can never go wrong with baby pictures, Bonny. Good call. He is so cute! Sounds like you have a busy new year planned, and that is a great idea to get through all the mess that is going on. I started Adriene's classes, but let's see if I stick it out. I do some weight training and cardio, and working yoga into that is a bit demanding. Can't wait to see your updates on the blog and goodreads, so get busy! LOL Doughnuts sound really good about now. Oh, by the way, testing down here is widely available, so I don't know why there is so much inconsistency. Oh, yeah, Trump and no plan.
ReplyDeleteWe had a devil of a time finding a COVID test for Boy 1 when he returned home from college, for the same reason - no symptoms, no close contact. What I learned then is that Rite Aid is participating in a big study (Project Baseline) and you can get no-questions-asked tests at many stores. We had to go to Chambersburg, but it worked - and was even free. You have to make appointments through the website. It sounds like you've figured this out already, but I thought I'd share just in cast it's useful.
ReplyDeleteWe had to wait a couple of days to get appointments to be tested back when we were exposed and I don't think it's gotten better. Adorable baby and socks! Good luck with the yoga, take it slow and do what you can but don't push it. As Adriene says, showing up is the hardest and most important part. Also, I think anything you can do to make MD feel more homey is super important so have fun with the donuts!
ReplyDeleteEvery post should start with a happy baby photo!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry Justin's new job has run into this hiccup, and I'm glad you were able to find him an appointment for the test. I honestly don't know how we'll ever get rid of this virus if we can't increase testing/surveillance.
Well, I think the sweater is just as cute as the socks, if not cuter.
ReplyDeleteIt is terrifying that your son had trouble finding a test. I hope things move forward more smoothly.
Plain white socks are not too cute or exciting! My son was getting tested was as a condition of employment simply because he had traveled to PA 5 days ago and was honest about it, but CVS was overwhelmed and I just lucked into one appt. We'll see how long the wait is for results. They say 3-5 days, but he asked if that was realistic and was told it may be more like 7-10. This is really awful for people that have symptoms and for controlling spread of the virus.
DeleteThose socks are perfect for that smiling baby! Happy Monday and I hope Justin's test does not delay things much more! (You can't find a test here in Pittsburgh either... and that is IF you have symptoms! No symptoms, they won't even talk to you!)
ReplyDeleteThat's a very sweet baby. I did not know that tests were in such short supply. I wonder if that is true locally. I don't know how much difference it will make but I have to think that having a new president who can set aside his ego and focus on the needs of the country should help. I say if I'm going to dream, to dream big. Best of luck with the doughnuts. They sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteLucien is a cute baby in cute socks (and a nice sweater) and I LOVE his name! My Grandma used to make donuts - so good. Do you already have a recipe? What kind? Can I come over ? LOL I was doing a yoga class once a week for several years and it really helped with my aching joints and lack of flexibility. I am attempting to do the Breath series with Adrienne, but the first day just about did me in. I had a ton of pain. I will persevere though...and I hope you do too! Hope Justin's test is good and that the delay is not too long.
ReplyDeleteI love that little sweater!! My stepmother would fry donuts once in a while when I was in high school... I never even knew a person could make their own! OMG, they were so good, but I've never made any type of donut myself (danger! danger!).
ReplyDeleteOh! Little Lucien is just adorable -- in socks AND sweater! Such a sweet baby! And . . . oh, this test is such a clusterfuck! I don't have any direct experience (fortunately), but I hear it is a mess. No wonder we're in such a mess. I hope Justin's results come back quickly and he is able to start his job soon. Re: the yoga. . . really. Give it a few days before you make a judgement about it. It's hard for everyone at first! And you'll see improvement so quickly if you keep with it! (Those donuts. . . )
