Jack has been trying to sell the business for at least two or three years. Imagine my surprise and delight when I saw that he had, and I was really excited when I saw the green posterboard sign in the window.
The new owner still makes pizza, but he's added tacos to the "Latino Menu". Last week I walked up to give the tacos a try.
I wasn't sure what to try first, so I got three Adovado and three Chorizo. Ryan laughed when I told him I was afraid they might be too much like Taco Bell because the picture on the menu was of hard-shelled tacos. In my mind, real tacos are on soft corn tortillas, and I wasn't disappointed.
They were delicious! The Adovado (also known as Adobada) were pork marinated in a red chile sauce. The Chorizo were just that, and I think they were my favorites.
But these tacos were "El Primo", just as advertised, and the next time I'm in Flemington, I'm going back to Jack's for more tasty tacos.
Those tacos look amazing, Bonny! I am hoping that others will try them and allow their tastebuds to help them overcome their intolerance. Because, imo, food is the most amazing way for the world to come together!
ReplyDeleteYum, I don't eat pork but those look delicious! I hope for your sake that he does a good business and sticks around!
ReplyDeleteThose look DELICIOUS Bonny. That might be a place for Dee and me to check out after the NJ Sheep & Wool (you ARE going, aren't you???).
ReplyDeleteTacos are pretty much my favorite food! (I should specify: GOOD tacos.) Those look fabulous -- and anything with chorizo is always at the top of my taco-list.
ReplyDeleteThere is a new Mexican grocery a few blocks away and I'm afraid they might already be closed. At the very least, they're very inconsistently open. It took FOREVER to open in the first place, and I don't know if it was a problem with licensing or the landlord (who I know to be very problematic). They have all the equipment for a taqueria but it has yet to be used, and good tacos would certainly do their part in squashing intolerance (which is rampant in these parts, as well).
ReplyDeleteFew things in life are more satisfying than a good taco. I hope that people will at least try the food and then make up their minds. Sometimes it can make all the difference.
ReplyDeleteOooooh tacos! Those look terrific and how lucky to have a place like that within walking distance. I should say, we have a Mexican restaurant within walking distance but . . . it's not very authentic when it comes to tacos as the unwashed masses where I live prefer crispy tacos to soft.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could go to Jack's with you! I LOVE tacos and I would bet the Adovado would be my favorites! (Although, I'd probably like them all.) In the west we have a lot of taco places to try but the best are owned by Mexican families!
ReplyDeleteBonnie, as we support great businesses that are run by immigrants, we say welcome, stay and our hearts embrace yoU!
ReplyDeleteWhat a kind and lovely thing to think and say, Kathy!
DeleteI'm with Kathy. Hopefully others will try the tacos and enjoy them.
ReplyDeletewell well, isn't nice the owners could sell and they switched up the menu! We have a new restaurant opening up in town that I'm excited about!!
